hi,

is there a prob painting a DF jet after flying it?

i know turbine guys do it often, just wondering if the DF fuel would generate any problematic residue on the primer that will make it hard to finish it later on.

any tips on how to prep the surface for painting after flying would be appreciated,

Not a problem. I always put 20 flights on my new planes before painting them.

Here is what I do...

I spray a light coat of K36(outdated)/K38 primer(replacement) over the plane. After 20 flights, I fill the nicks, clean the primer with the standard degreaser and give it a light sanding-taking most of the primer down but not to the glass. I then spray another light coat and sand to prep for the final coat. The second coat ensure the finish is flawless after flying and ensures the paint sees no impurities.

That should do it.

BTW you are a lucky guy to live in a warmer climate, it's getting cold up North (just jelous...)

Just substitue your primer for the K36/K38 in Thomson's post.

If you think Dave lives in a warm climate, you ought to try Houston. It was 80 degrees here today.

about the 80 deg thing.... i knew life is not fair, but this is mental cruelty...[]! if you'll have me over for few weeks i'll sleep in the cellar, wash your dishes, babysit your gradmother, hell, i'll wash your car every day....

But in the summer it's 95+ degrees with 80 - 90% humidity. 100 - 110 degree heat index.

BTW - no one has cellars here, because they would flood. We're only 30/ above sea level.

Maybe you could come down here for the winter and I could go up there for the summer?

What is K38? How is it different than K36?

How is the F-18 coming?
