I have designed a turbine test stand that I will be marketing soon for guys who like to check things out before putting them into their jet.

Send an e-mail to [email protected]

I have two versions made up. along with some other cool tools to us in the shop.

Do what I did. The heck with a traditional test stand, I built mine onto the back of my mountain bike so I can go for a Jet A powered ride while test running!

Sean, as an ex RAM guy, I know that we would have no need for the Space Helmet (PLSS or Portable Life Support System in the Apollo years). All of that rotational energy would be expended radially away from the turbine, orthogonally to our flight path, when ye old RAM rear bearing let go. A loud bang and then we'd be walking and pushin' the bike home. If I truly thought that a RAM explosion could get me into Low Earth Orbit, I'd have tried it by now. (sigh)....

T33JetMan, I have some video (I put it on a DVD) of me riding the beast, but I am not sure I know how to get it into a format to post and do not have the time to try right now. Bug me via PM between Christmas & New Years and I might give it a go!

Dave,

That's a nice stand. I really like the way you used drawer slides for the turbine table. Simple and effective way for measuring thrust. What slides did you use? I know there's a world of difference in resistance between the many available.
