I am sure you'll get both sides of the fence. You'll find die hard smooth stop fans and the same for the electronic valves. We have many of the mini hobby valves in use here in South Florida. Proportional braking and the gear up cutoff feature if you don't use a mix to do the same thing. You can just leave that lead off if you wish. Very easy to setup. Really only two steps.
Being that Mini Hobby is local, I have had a great experience getting one repaired that a wire broke off when I took it there. $89 versus the cost of a servo and the smooth stop. Personally I like the electronic valves that free up installation room.
If you try one I think you will be pleased.

Mike, I haven't tried the Mini Hobby valve but I started using the Jetcat valves last year and they seem to work really well for proportional braking. One thing you will need though is a little larger air tank for the Jetcat, not sure about the Mini Hobby valve. I am still using the Smooth stop in my BVM F-86 because of the limited space for a larger tank, but I think that since I installed the P-60 I may be able to get one in there now. You may want to give some thought to the available space if you are using one in a smaller jet. Again, not sure how the Mini Hobby valve works. Gary

I agree Black Cloud's comments. I've owned and used both; currently the MinHobby unit is in my F-16. With the Sure Stop it is so finicky to get an absolutely perfect in line setup without an O-ring issue leaking all of the air out. This is somewhat like the Ford vs. Chevy issue - you'll find support on both sides. Its electronic for me.
Best regards,
Rob

I have one on my Hot Spot. It works fine, but I still go through tires. Maybe it's the short runway I try to stop on.
I do like the install, and the cutoff when gear up. I've been flying alot inverted, I don't loose air holding slightly down stick. Not to mention, no servo.
