Default Fuel filters/systems

After reading a post here (Wren Mklll build) and asking a few local turbine flyers it seems most are filling just before or just after the UAT/hopper tanks. That means all filters between the fill point and the last overflow vent are useless. They will collect all the crap inside the filter and be sucked back into the system as soon as the pump starts. I guess the paper or felt type help eliminate bubbles but the UAT should do that. Maybe two filters, one before and one after the pump are all that's needed and of course filters in the filling container.
Is this true? Comments. Please!

John
