Hi All
I have been playing with the idea for fitting a mw44 to a fivejet.
Any thoughts on weight saving when building the wing etc would be appreciated.
Has any one tried this already?If so is it successful.

Sounds like a good idea. My 44 flew my IAD Serpent quite well when my Ram 500 went sick.I stripped some weight out such as dual batteries etc. and got it down to 13lbs. Span is 74".

I had been looking for a five jet kit but they seem hard to find. I think anything up tp 13Lbs would be ok. After all 8lbs thrust would have been good five years ago and the Wrenonly weighs 1Lb. compared to a JPX which was about 5lbs all up for the same thrust.

Hi Craig, i have been flying a 5 jet for the past two years with a mw54 mk1 12lbs thrust eng.
Just recently i have uprated it to a 14lbs, the performance is brilliant.
The 5 jet is very nice to fly but hard to slow down for landings not having any flaps fitted.
Models weight is 12.5 lbs dry, inc 4 oz of lead in the nose to ballance it.
I think you could save about 2 lbs with a mw44 and some carefull building.
It would be hard to save some weight on the wing withought it affecting the strength.

Been flying a FiveJet for 3 years now, and could not have had a better introduction to jets.
I have a MW54 mk1 manual start , dubro 50oz tank, flaps, Spring air HD, balsa tailbooms with
foam/balsa airfoiled tail surfaces. Finish is glass+ water based poly, and spray can paint.
Dry weight is as low as 11 Ibs.
I have the pump and all the Nicads in the nose to balance it, but with the lighter engine
you could do away with Lipo packs, and save some weight.
Plastic film could also save some.
If you choose to build your own wing and booms, select light foam and balsa and try to save
weight everywhere from the start
The way my fuse was moulded is not up to modern lightweight standards.
It is polyester and boat type rovings, but apart from that it is very well made.
Dont think of wheel brakes and oleo legs.
Go with flaps, unless you have a mile of runway, and a constant headwind:-)

From what the other guys say about weight I reckon you could be around 10lbs with a 44. It will fly very well at that weight. My L39 is 9lbs and flys really well even though the wing loading is much higher than the 5 jet. I was really quite surprised how good the vertical was.

I have ordered one of these. 64" span and about 10lbs.
