Default Can a tailpipe be made of copper?

I found some .008 sheet copper, and looked up the melting point and found :

The melting point of Copper is 1083.4±0.2 º C

Is there any reason anyone can think of not to use rolled sheet copper .008 thick as a tailpipe?

I suspect that the strength and modulus will be significantly less than stainless. That means, for it to be as strong (resistant to bending and resistant to collapse, compressive stability), it will need to be thicker than a stainless pipe. Been using .008 stainless on Isobar pipes for years. You can get them cherry red and blue all over and they are just fine with no collapsing.

I bought the stainless .008 for $125 or so, enough for a couple of pipes a couple days ago. I just found this stuff for $10.00 on ebay and thought I'd ask. It sure would look cool with copper!

Thanks guys.

Sean

Yea, you could hang it one of those fancy pot racks in your kitchen!

Sean,

Where do you get your .008 stainless steel sheets. McMAster only carries 12 " wide. I need atleast 18" wide for the outter pipe.

TIA,

Eddie Lozano

Sean, i worked with copper for many years in my fathers business. The copper will radiate the heat and become cherry red. As for melting im not sure but im not sure i would like it. Russ
