Default First Jet

Hi All,
I was checking out the models, and was wondering what would be a good intro into turbines, the most suitable seems the Kangaroo, with a small(HA) turbine.
Just wondering how suitable the Cermark(?) Viper would be?

Any help?

I think this is a question that can be answered about 87 different ways....everyone has their opinions on what is a good starter jet. Myself, I'm about to take the plunge with a Super Reaper and a Jetcat P-80. The main reason for this model/engine is availablility....a friend of mine has the plane with this setup, and I'm buying it. This same friend has a AV8R with a FT-500, and it fly's just like an Ultra Stick on steroids[>:][>:]

John:

Check out Great Northern Models (www.greatnorthernmodels.com) and the FACET-1200.

MANY of these are currently being flown in Australia.

I can give you reference names if your interested. Please email me for details.

Best Regards:

If it were my first turbine jet, it would be a Facet 1200.....I have seen quite a few of them, and its a real neat plane, plus its a nice build, and you can do many different color schemes to make it stand out! It slows down nice for landings and is very predictable in flight....Good luck with your choice!

G'day John, Geez mate your in OZ and you really should go with the Roo just makes sense
Seriously theres so many guy's flying Roos now in Australia it would be so easy for you to get all the set up and flying tips in a heart beat.... Besides that the Roo is a great first turbine model because of the external mounted location of turbine, makes the learning curve shorter and easier IMHO especially during the 'hot start' phase and you will go through that as most of us do... remember to face model into breeze always during start cycle so as not to singe your Roo tails if you do have a hot start[sm=wink.gif]

Cheers-

Thanks for all the advice.

Looking at the Roo, but was wondering what turbine would be good for it.

I'm not looking for it to rocket along (well for a jet that is)

Also, I would be having to run it off dirt and grass strips.

I would suggest a P-70,(of course there are many other brands and thrust ranges suitable) . my suggestion is based in that this turbine idle thrust actually helps you to land this plane at the same time that it has "punch" to throw your roo at impressive speeds. it also gives you a extra minute of flight compared to the average mid-sized turbine fuel consumption on a 2 liter bottle.

The avi8tor is a good model, Capable of fast and slow with good landing charicteristics. The Kangaroo/Rookie are also good models, Easy to Fly, can fly Fast or slow. I flew mine at 1/2 power on a simjet 1200 no problem. ALso took off from 500ft pavement at about 300ft. The only draw back to these models and others of the delta/flying wing design is landing. They will land slow and stable enough but you have to hit it perfect, Not to fast, Not too slow or they will begin to HOP. Many a roo have went "over the hill" this way. All and all it is ok though. I have just got a second hand Kangaroo (2 weeks ago) with a Simjet 2250 as my first turbine. The engine seems easy to handle and the 'roo handles superbly. I have only had four flights, but I already feel really comfortable with it.

The Vertical performance is AWESOME!!!

I guess so!! The guy i sold my roo to put a jet cat P-120 on it. For the life of me i dont see how those airframes hold together with that power. [8D] Russ
