Default Smoke pump options?

I know alot of you are using tams smoke system. My question is has anyone made thier own by using a regular smoke pump for giant scale. If So Do these pumps, "OR" tams have a regulator so you can leave the smoke on ALL the time and just have a small whisp for the entire flight? Also How much smoke oil do you carry up? Russ

You could get an extra fuel pump... hook it up to a small electric speed control and a 5 or 6 cell pack.
Hook up the speed control to a spare receiver channel, and use a switch or a trim pot on your transmitter. That way you can control the smoke from "zero" up to "way too much"...

I got a cheap $10.50 GWS speed control from Tower for a speed 300. It's tiny and weighs nothing. There are tons to choose from and all cheap. You'll want to cut or pull the red wire in the ESC receiver plug to disable the BEC.

On my JR 9303, I set up to use twin throttles and hook the speed control to the second throttle channel. In the 9303, you can set up two different throttle curves for each throttle channel. So for the turbine channel, I have both curves the same. For the smoke channel, the first curve is off, all points 0%, and the second is set up to run from around 40% at idle to 60% at max. The setting will vary by number of battery cells, type of pump and nozzles. In the throttle curve menu, you can select a switch to choose between the curves. So the Mix switch is the smoke switch on my system.

Using this method, you can set the smoke density to suit across the entire throttle range.

I bought the TME smoker pump with the JR lead already attached.
It has a needle valve to vary the amount of smoke fluid output.
On my AV8R I carry 16 oz.
and at full blast it lasts about 45 seconds

Sullivan Smoke Writer works awesome. It's a little bit bulky but not much more than Tam's. I think I'm carrying 20-24 oz. (can't exactly remember at this moment). I have never left it on continuous to get a duration, but it seems to last a very long time for 24 oz. compared to my buddy's KC and Tam set-up.

I have an AV8R also and I didn't want to try to cram everything inside. I had an old Graupner fuel pump that was laying around after I upgraded to a newer fuel pump so I used it. I bought a cheap 10 amp speed controller and a 2 cell LiPo battery to go with the 20 oz tank that I had in the shop. I then built a box to hold all the componants and then I just hung the box on my bombdrop mechanism when I'm not dropping nerf footballs. It has just two connections, one for smoke fuel to the injector tubes and the other to the receiver. I plugged the speed controller into a spare RX channel that has a slider switch on my 9Z and I can control how much smoke I want, from just barely on and whispy to full blown clouds. I just have to remember to not air up the bombdrop when I am doing smoke. Don't want to drop the smoke system box. Loads of fun.
