This is what I posted in a previous thread for your information and necessacy action:

" They are a non-advertiser and non-supporter of rcu and are allowed only ONE ad per month. The last ad was made on 4/23. Their next post would be 5/23 if there are no others since 4/23

They certainly have no problem with full page ads in the print magazines but would not pay here to support RCU."

No sponsors=no forum, and if C-arf gets a totally free ride(actually declined to advertise), I can see the owner of the board's POV. It's a balance, what is free posting and what is just a free press release, but in the end, it's up to HIM to make a judgement call, and if he feels he is being taken for a ride, then he can just zap it. Manufacturers are allowed only one free press release per month, maybe they were skirting around it by having a "close friend" post or something, I dunno. In this case, maybe Marc knows something more about it than we do not, and, anyway, in the end, this IS a business, and he needs to do SOMETHING to protect himself and the other sponsors, I dunno. I notice also that C-arf has no problem spending advertising dollars elsewhere, they won't die over this.
If it had been a post where someone was showing off their new kit or something, that would be different.

Besides, what a coyote ugly aircraft that was.

My stars, such language!

Maybe because jet guys spew more BS than most others? Maybe because more money is at stake? Or because maybe it is just a more active and interesting forum than the others, with more active and interesting people?

OK, lets see if we can get a few facts straight!

The info on the new jet was posted on Comp-ARF's website on Saturday a couple of days later I made a post that basically said "Have a look". OK OK I have now found out that I can't do that. I have spoken to Marc and can understand why and he also pointed out he had found a bug that meant no e-mails he had sent me before had got to me to explain this. I always play by the rules and now I know this I will continue to do so.

However, a day or two later, SJN makes a post about the new jet after seeing it on the website and it gets deleted immediately. A couple of other posts get deleted immediately too with little explanation.

Even in this thread it is still be proposed that SJN is a rep or somehow related to C-ARF. All I know of him is he's a regular guy who posts here quite often!

Now, I'm not overly bothered about who thinks who is in bed with who etc but I cannot see why the threads need continual deletion. In a way you are advertising the model more and more by everyone getting worked up over the disappearing threads - which I believe we have agreed shouldn't be happening and was the main reason this all started!

Anyway, just my 0.02 from the original culprit [&:]

Rgds,
Mark

So if someone comes in and wants to get peoples opinions on a new product before he buys and he posts a picture of the product, it can be removed unless the manufactures are paying for advertisement?

If I were planning on trying a new product and I wanted peoples opinions on it I would go to a forum and ask. Even if there is no affiliations with the company it will still be removed? Just trying to understand the new rules.

I posted before reading Mark's post. I do see that he is a Rep.

But the question still stands, if he wasn't a rep would it have been removed? Thanks.

Kenny,

I think this whole situation has been caused by simple confusion.

Quite simply, I posted a link to the new model. As a rep I can't do that and it 'rightly' got deleted. A day or so later SJN (a totally independant guy) posts a similar thread and it got deleted. Just seems the moderators got confused and thought it was just me or someone affiliated to the company having another go at a post!!

I'm not sure how long it will be before an independant post is allowed now

It would seem that you're unaware of the rules too as I was. I guess, from your signature, you're affiliated with Y/A?? I reckon Marc needs to find a clearer way to ensure all reps etc are aware of these rules. I know I wasn't until it was pointed out to me.

I think there are rules, and then there are always, sooner or later, these "grey area" cases, and in the end, it's up to the owner to make a judgement call.
If he feels like C-arf is getting too much for nothing, then he's free to zap that post.
I think all of us can actually live quite happily with straight answers, like "I zapped that post slamming that product because the maker is a sponsor and we need the money to have any forum at all" or "I zapped that post because they refused to advertise, I don't want to give them free advertising anyway" or whatever.
I think people will find it refreshing and honest IF such is the case, I think people get most upset when they feel something is happening behind the scenes that they do not know about. SOME will always cry foul, no matter what, no point in trying to please them.
But me, at least, I can live happily within certain commercial restraints imposed by the need for sponsors, so, in this case, Marc has already said enough to satisfy ME, he does not REALLY owe any explanation either way, but I thought his answer was pretty straight-up.

Thats a poor statement....

So if poeple write a bit too much about Yellow aircraft.....then zap zap zap.....no more yellow in the forum. They did not pay enough for all that conversation that has been going on.
