Default digital servos comparison

I made a quick comparison this morning between JRs servos and Multiplex:

JR DS8411 : 155 oz/in $114.95 MPX Digi Power 227 oz/in $109.37
JR DS9411: 82 oz/in $99.95 MPX Digi Profi 113 oz/in $ 83.95
JR DS3421: 65 oz/in $84.95 MPX Digi Micro 85 oz/in $ 71.79

All metal gear and all values at 4.8 volts.

Hmmm,

Just did a little checking... Don't believe you have the numbers right on the MPX. Torque on the Digi power is only 99oz/in, holding power is 227oz/in. The 8411's have 155 oz/in of torque and over 300 oz/in of holdind power.

Another comparison that work very good.
Hitec Digital 5945: 153 oz/in $90
Metal gear and metal arm.

You can buy the MPX digis from Andy Low at Electrodynamics.

Tam, the gys in Giant Scale are talking about quite a few problems with Hitec digital.

I think this is the servo to use for a lot of large jets
out there. I use it on DC10 elev and Rig turbine
rotation.

http://www.multiplexrc.com/servo_digi.htm#daten2

Multiplex Jumbo BB Digi
On 6 volts... 255 oz torque...460 holding power... ~ $130

They are very tight and quite large but the gear train
is far large and can take much more abuse than standard
size servos.

You're right Todd, I mixed the numbers, sorry. I guess what got me confused is that I think the holding power is what makes the difference versus non digital, no ? The torque is not much different than from a standard servo, but the holding power is much stronger. Is that right, or did I got that mixed up too ? ;-)

Correct Bernard! For my application I beleive I need a servo who's torque is higher, holding power is good but if you cant deflect the surface (ie: torque) under load the holding power is useless, Although digi's usually are much higher in torque and much more precise than analog.

Hi Bernard

Can you be more specific or provide an RCU thread link? I use the 5945's and they seem good so far... I know a few others, also using them without any probs.

Thanks,
Kelly

look at this discussion. Some individuals says they crashed because of Hitec servos : http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...531&forumid=38

Bernie,

I read it. But there are not talking about Hitec Digital 5945.
Their talking about 5645 at $55. This servo are brush motor. At heavy load it go off center. I don't use this servos at all. Too cheap go on my jets.

Hitec 5945 is the one to comparison. 5945 is coreless motor.

I been flying 5945 almost a year on my roo. Got over 100 flight not notice any problem.

Tam

There has been some problems with SOME Hitec digitals going to full deflection for some reasons (see a thread, closed now) in the Radio forum).

BUT... I fly three expensive planes (one turbine jet) with hitec digitals and I trust them 100%. The 5945 is a great servo, fast, powerfull and cheaper than the competition.

I had two friends that fly JR have JR digitals fail in their helis, every company has their failures but I think the greater majority are having good sucess, with ALL brands, used in the proper installation.

Default 5945

For the record I only have 1 flight on my 5945's in a Hotspot and they seem pretty good. I am running redundant 5-cell packs and switches on a MH voltage reg, and a Futaba 8UAP radio. They got quite a workout on the bench since they were the first set of hitec's I've ever run. The speed is good, torque is high, center point is very accurate and there's very little backlash. I hope they stay this way.

Some guys guessed I had it up to 150mph on the first flight and the controls seemed very responsive. Dean W could probably guess the speed a little more accurately as he was my spotter.

Tam,
I see you have one of those new programming boxes, worth the $$$?

Sound good to me ! And I agree...Even if I like Multiplex better than other brand, I have servos from other brand, and would never use an MPX economy servo in something else than a trainer....
