HotSpot question

What is the favored method of setting up the elevons on the HotSpot...seems some prefer the 'split' surfaces while others
use a single per side?
When using the split elevons with 2 servos per side, I assume
you get some redunduncy...but do they still move in tandum?
Would 1 8411 per side be ok?
Are the Voltz wing max servos ok for the rudders?
Sorry if this has been hashed out before but this is my first
delta/elevon experience.
Thanks

It's all personal preference. There are two camps-Split's & Single's.
Personally, I've always gone with a single elevon with no problems. The 8411 is perfect for that application and is probably used by most with the Spot. The Volz will also be fine for the rudders. That has been the servo of choice for some time. There are a few more choices now.
Just my personal experience and choices,
George

Mr. Hunter,
I have one 8411 per elevon and it has been working great for me. A buddy of mine has had several HotSpots and he did have a servo fail on him causing the 'Spot to crash. Although he did have this one incident he still uses one servo per elevon. He believes it to be an isolated incident and has complete confidence in the 8411's to handle the job.
I would be cautious using the Volz servos. Several people have had them strip the gears, including one that I witnessed at Superman. I use the new Hitec 5125 wing digital servo. It is only 10 mm (3/8") thick and has zero slop in its' all metal gear train. It also comes with a metal control arm. My Hitecs are also connected to a JR 460T gyro and have performed flawlessly. They seem to have an abundance of holding power.
If you do split the elevons get the JR Matchbox to get the surfaces to move evenly. You will save yourself a lot of aggravation down the road when setting them up.

Hunter,
i´m a pro modelbuilder and had made under my client´s choice the 2 arrangements.
both worked ok, but the split is a pain to adjust.
if i build the third hot i would go for the single set up with 8411
the geometry of the split leads to misalignments at the end point sometimes, and the wing needs a BIG hole to accomodate both servos...
good luck / fred

I used a single Futaba 9402 on each elevon on my Hot Spot. It worked well but one decided to go south in flight. If I built another I would put 2 servos on each elevon. Don't bother splitting it. The Voltz servos are great for the rudders. Can't beat them.
