Last Saturday saw the inaugural meeting of a small group of Scottish Jet flyers at our new airfield site. The use of this superb field has been achieved by the persistence and hard work of Ian McLaren our flight line controller for the day.It is anticipated that this field will be available to the group on a regular basis. We enjoyed 60oF temps and light winds for perfect flying conditions.
Photos 1 and 2 show the Hawk built by Ron Fraser from the PJP kit, It is a superb model with all gear doors, landing lights and external belly tank. Ron flies the model in a very scale manner and it has a lovely "sit" in the air, power is Jetrcat 120 23lbs dry.It may surprise you to know that Ron is 81 years young and still enjoying the hobby!
Photo 1 also shows Lindsay Dickie's Kangaroo with detuned AMT "Peggy" power. Lindsay's smooth and polished routine showcases the vertical performance of this model / turbine combo. Incidentally, Lindsay will represent Scotland in the upcoming WJM. Your scribe's Jetco / Ram 500 is also visible in the back left. On my first occassion landing on tarmac I discovered that its not as forgiving as grass and some gear leg rebending was required!
Photo 3 shows Andy Rudden's Skymasters F15, also with Jetcat120 power. This airframe / turbine is a perfect combination and Andy fully exploited the strength of the airframe with a demonstration of high speed steeply banked low level turns and eye level passes at full throttle down the centreline. All in all a great day's flying.
