Put Eddie Weeks (Baton Rouge), Phil Nuza (just east of Baton Rouge) and Woketman (Slidell LA) and everyone else on your prayer list.

Woket here. We arrived in Orlando for a few days at Disney World for the kids' birthadys on Wednesday. Were supposed to fly back Sunday night (tonight) to be back at work in the AM. Obviously no flights going back there so here we are holed up in Memphis (any jet action here? We are at Homewood Suites). Last I checked in, it looked as though the eye might go right over our new house in Slidell. When we left Wednesday morning, I had zero idea that this was gonna happen. I prepped nothing. No bording up, did not even close the functional shutters. All my radio gear, turbines, etc is all low enought that 5 fett of H2O will get it. Bummer! All the REAL valuables are with us though (and they are refreshed from a few Disney Days!). Our two dogs (Apollo, the best dog a guy ever had just turned 10 years on July 20, the anniversary of Apollo 11's lunar landing!) are in a Slidell kennel. Good luck boy.

I hope I have a work shop to return to. Hope I have a job to return to. The NASA Michoud Assembly Facility is critical to the Shuttle program and we are locked down. Ready to ride it out. Hope Eddie and Phil are safe, and don't forget Lane, Mike Morgan, Scotty, and Bill Meador. Take care guys.

Mark, you know where I stand on the issue, you need some jet action, call me and use mine! They are ready to go whenever and however long you need them. As for what's important, it's all in the opposite bed your sleeping in tonight buddy, but you know that. Best of luck to you, yours, and everyone else. Our prayers down here in Texas and around the world for my brother and now those in harms way are not only laser focused on your area, but I firmly believe that they are fucntional! So don't worry and get that shut eye.

All the best,

Sean

Glad to hear you are OK, Mark, I hope your family/neighbors/friends are OK, it looks like Slidell took the full brunt, direct hit, confirmed 150 mph winds.

I noticed that early this morning they said on CNN that the National Weather Service weather station that is right by the entrance to Slidell airport (where I buy the world's dirtiest Jet A) went off line. I guess wiped out or at least prime & back up power failure. Probably means that if I ever buy Jet A there again, it probably will be even dirtier!

Well my family and I evacuated to Houston. I hope my F-15 survived, but I have heard no information on Slidell. I do believe it took the western eye wall of the storm. I went in to Michoud Assembly Facility on Saturday, oblivious to the hurricane and by 9:00am I started covering the computers covered in my department and left later that morning. We evacuated by car at 4:30am Sunday morning.

Todd I hope the few things I ordered didn't arrive yet!

Hey Guys,
I hope you can get home real soon and find no damage to your properties and businesses.
I saw the CNN coverage, looked like hell on earth, but it sounds as if it could have been much worse.
Looks like Katrina has quietened down to a cat-1 pretty quickly, but of course the damage is done.
I didn't know that New Orleans was below sea level.
Good luck.

Mike, we are in Memphis. I saw you calling on my cell but no one was there upon answering. Try to call me back ASAP! I will continue to call you. I am calling your cell, is that the right number? I will PM you too, but I do not have your direct e-mail address here. Take care.

I spoke to Mike briefly on the cell yesterday. My main issue is that I still know practically NOTHING about the condition of Turtle Creek (my subdivision in Slidell) and Cross Gates (Mike's).

Mike, you will be interested in this: http://www.space.com/news/050830_michoud_update.html . Apparently work faired pretty OK. Now, if only we had a way to get there and some place to sleep!

Thanks guys. Sean, don't worry about us. Ryan needs your attention.

Update..

Phil and I are doing fine.... Hot and sticky but things are looking better... Phil just got power
back and big Daddy drove over a little generator.

This thing is great.. Burns the same amount of fuel in 1 hour as my AMT 450 does in 5 min...
(not jokeing.. Fact... 3/4 Gal)

Not much damage here ,just tress down all over... Phil's roof vent, the kind that goes round and round...
Rolled down the street...

This was one bad ***** storm... I mean, my house is over 80 -100 miles from where the center was..
and I am on the West side... but with a pressure of 920 mb... everybody gets a woppen.... We will
be at Waco, if I don't burn all my Jet fuel making electricity.

David, Vernon and Dennis are all OK. No power. Vernon has no idea about his jewelry store in Biloxi as of this afternoon.

Looks like your dog has his own opinion of the generator.

We lost power on for a few minutes. Am missing some shingles on my house and we saw winds of almost 50 mph. I live 6 hours from the beach. My parents have lost sewer, water and pwer and were told that they cannot expect to get any of this back for at least two weeks, and they live 150 miles from the beach. I have close friends in Hattiesburg, where I went to school and many more in Long BEach MS and Biloxi. I spent most of my college years in New Orleans every weekend. The extent of this devastation is enormous. Look for staggering gas prices and fuel oil this winter. The casinos of the MS guld coast which were providing such a strong stimulus for growth there are totally gone. It will be a huge impact on the economic growth and stability of the region. This is disaster that will be felt nationwide.
Wocketman, I am about 2 hours east of you on the MS/AL line. If you are in town this weekend you can come over and fly with me, or look up Lt. Dan, he is in that area and am sure he will extend a hand of hospitality. Hope your home is safe and sound, and you have a safe trip home.

MS Gang all faired OK. We had some strong winds and a helluva lot of rain up in the northern part of the state. Vernon wound up with a hole in his roof and sounds like his store in Biloxi may be MIA. We were without power in our neighbourhood for about 24 hours, me personally 20 seconds as the standby generator kicked in automagically. The further south you go the worse it gets. The coast is absolutely demolished.
