Looking at getting into turbines and I am thinking along the lines of a Simjet 1200 ( 18lb) or the Wren supersport 17.5 lb. One of my major priorities is a Turbine that I can use on a range of airframes. The Simjet seems to be cheaper ( on a straight Euro to sterling conversion) but what experience do people have of these turbines.
I know the Wren customer support is legendary but what experience do people have of the Simjets here in europe?

Burnt out that vrdf? Wren - exellent. Support as you mention is legendary. They've made my transition into turbines very easy indeed, I couldn't ask for more. I have no experience with simjets, so cannot comment. But I'd say wren all the way

I've got the weeny 44, therefore no. It's an awesome piece of kit.

Hey Mike the Simjet 2300ES will give access to more airframes 25 LBS truss.

I have no experience of the Simjet but the Supersport is a superb turbine. Mine is giving 19lbs thrust and the spool up from cruise to full power is less than 2 seconds.

I aso have the 44 and a 54mk3 which I built from the kit so you can see I am a Wren devotee. The service is unbeatable I would not hesitate to reccommend them. The kit 54Mk3 is probably the best value on the market, it only takes about four hours to screw together.

The SimJet 1200 SP is a superp engine as well. It has very good/low fuel consumption. I think you need to compare the price of each turbine and the accessories you get. Really nothing bad to be said about any of the turbines mentioned here.

I don't have any experience with the 18lb 1200 you are talking about but I do have the standard 1200 and it has been a great engine....very reliable and very low fuel consumption. Some local guys have the wren's and the support they have received even over here on the other side of the globe has been excellent. I don't think you would go wrong with either engine. I would go with the simjet simply because of my favourable experiences with mine ( I also have their 3000 in an Avonds F15 also) but wren's support is hard to ignore also.

MIKE, I HAVE THE NEW SIMJET 1200-18 IN MY BOOMERANG INTRO. I FLEW IT AT THE TWO CLASSIC JET MEETINGS AND ON THE SATURDAY AT THE LONG MARSDEN MEETING. IT WILL ALSO BE FLOWN AT THE ST.ATHAN JET MEET ON SEPT 10TH IF YOU WISH TO HAVE A LOOK AT IT. THIS ENGINE IS JUST AMAZING. ITS THE SECOND SIMJET I HAVE BOUGHT DIRECT FROM LARS AND THE FOURTH BETWEEN MYSELF AND MY TWO MATES . WE NOW ALL HAVE THE SIMJET 2300-25. THEY RUN SPOT ON EVERYTIME AND THE CUSTUMER SERVICE IS EXCELLENT. I HAVE NEVER HAD A SINGLE PROBLEM WIT MINE AND NEITHER MY MATES.

ITS ABOUT THE SAME SIZE AS THE 54, SAME RPM, 2 LITRES LASTS ME 10 MINS AND ITS JUST A 'START AND FLY' TURBINE. IT LAUNCHES THE INTRO VERTICAL. MYSELF AND MY TWO MATES TIM EDWARDS AND JOHN COCKFIELD CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND SIMJET TURBINES AND ESPECIALLY THE 1200-18. JASON FLETCHER HAS HAD A BLAST OF MY INTRO WITH THE 1200-18 AND I HAD TO CHISEL THE TX OUT OF HIS HAND. FUN FUN FUN !!!!

Looks like there are both Good Turbines.
I think I will go with the Supersport as there is already good experience with the beast with the people I fly with. If I can talk the other half into a second turbine then I think I will go Simjet. ( unless Wren start making a beast to compete with the Jetcat P120)
