Post some pictures of the Mirage when you get it. I have one also and plan to finish it this winter. If it flys anything like the F86 from JHH it will be a great plane!

Larry

I have the Mirage now, this is the one that John Hoppe build some time ago, like around 1996/97, he did a nice job with it. It has the K&B 7.5 with the machined block carburetor, the Mac's 1250 8.5cc pipe, the distance from the glow plug to the apex is 10 5/8 in. I can only guess on the wt. about 10 to 10.5 lbs. I don't have a scale.

For those who want to see some pictures I will try as soon as I can, I don't have a digital camera.

Keep them flying.

CARS II,

You should shorten the pipe by about 1/2"-5/8" to get better performance from the engine. The pipe length you stated is too long. Optimum length for that engine is 10"-10-1/8". Cut off the back of the 4" header pipe about 1/2" to get close, then make final adjustments by twisting the tuned pipe itself to achieve the desired length. You may need to relocate the pylon at the rear of the exhaust liner accordingly.

Also, if you'll add 1 oz. of turbine engine oil to each gallon of 15% sport fuel (which is the recommended fuel for this engine), your engine will like it, you'll increase rpm, and the engine will run cooler.

Best regards,
Larry Wolfe

Larry,

I was planing to use Wildcat,s jet "A" fuel which is 10 % Nitro and 22 % oil, they also have a 15 % Nitro and 18 % oil that I have been using on my prop. planes (40 OS, 46 and 108 Magnum). Any thoughts on the Jet "A", also Where can I get turbine engine oil?

Thank you.

CARS,

The 7.5 engine will prefer 15% nitro, 18% oil; 22% is too much oil. The D/F community seems to think that the extra oil protects the engine against a lean needle setting, when in fact it just burns off at the operating temps of the engine. A gallon is always 128 oz. and when the oil is increased from 18%-22%, something else went away. Methanol? Nitro? The extra oil actually provides for poorer combustion and reduces the BTU energy of the fuel. By adding 1 oz. of turbine engine oil, you add 0.08% lubricant (which doesn't burn off at operating temps) and it doesn't dilute the methanol or the nitro, nor does it destroy the BTU energy of combustion. You'll find the turbine engine oil at the fuel point at a local airport--about $12.00/qt. It will give you about 25 gallons worth of fuel additive. I actually use it in all my glow fuel--4-stroke, sport, etc.

Best regards,
Larry Wolfe

I got more pictures, but as you can see there's a problem with the size. I also will have pictures of the Arizona jet meet buy tonight, I was there yesterday, I like to say that I had the honor to meet "DaFatha", Larry wolfe a very nice person who again offer me any help that I needed to be successfully with my Mirage and although he was already packing to go at the end of the day, he made time to answer some of my questions. Thank you Larry.

Here is a picture of my next project, JHH Cougar. (turbine ? )mmmmm.
