I've got one on the way. I loved my BMT kero start and eventhough the JC is using a different technology I'm looking forward to avoiding the complexity and risks of propane.

I'll post results once I get mine going.

John Redman demonstrated the Kero start on his JetCat P-60 equiped BVM BobCat at Spiderman (Winamac) last weekend. Seemed to work fine for the times I saw him start. Looks to be a quick retrofit including an ECU "Flash" update to a new Version 5 release.

I saw a Titan Kero start and it was flawless. The start sounds much more realistic IMO.

I saw this one fitted to the Tamjet Super Hornet at
the Fresno Madera jet rally in September this plane flew all day
and performed flawlessly in temperatures in the high eighties.
Not sure if it was fitted from new but this plane now has more than 200 flights
on it.
Notice the fuel tap in the line fitted as a precaution against flooding the turbine.

brian

Anything from the reps?? Advantages/Disadv., etc. Is a newly purchased engine already going to be done for kero start or a choice for butane still? Are future engines moving more towards only kero start or will butane be around forever? Thanks for the info!

PS- Hey John! Hope everything is going well, haven't heard from you in a while.......take care and hope the move, new job, etc. was a total success and you guys are getting settled in! I'm sure there's a ball team somewhere close thats just calling you to coach . Take it easy man!

John's P-60 seemed to work flawless at Winamac. The kero has a nice "soft" start, not to pop of propane/butane. Looked nice not having to screw with propane or powermax cans.

I may not have all the facts, but I believe he said the following...
- your ECU can be upgraded, but new ECU's 5.0 F or later will come with kero start pre-programmed
- you must have a 12 fuel stick engine, so if you have a 6 stick P-120 you're on hold for a while
- battery must be 2700 mAh or higher

JetCat's german site has the info, page 4 shows the plumbing...
http://www.cat-ing.de/turbines/downl...ranleitung.pdf

German site also has info on the new smoke pump.

So i wonder if the kero start engines will be the same price as the ones they are selling now, can you still use the propane start on the kero start engine incase of trouble? AND since i am looking to buy a JET CAT in the next couple of months will i get the kero start or no?? Thanks Russ

As I understand it, the kero start option is an additional couple of hundred bucks, or something like that.

I have been running the Kero Start on the Titan in Tams SuperHornet pictured above. Very smooth starts! No it has not been installed since new, just in the last 15-20 flights. Yes you can change it back to propane very easily if needed. I will let Bob, Matt, and John answer the technical questions.....I just wanted to jump in and answer the easy ones!!
