RE: Name that plane
Yak-38M (see below)
Now before you chastise me for spoiling the contest, I solved in legitimately. I knew it was a Russian VTOL bird, so I did an Alta Vista search on "Soviet VTOL aircraft" and found the picture...
Bob
ps. and I knew that before Mark's post too! [:-]

RE: Name that plane
Hi Wocket... to say that the Yak is a copy of the Harrier is not fair. The Harrier has a single engine
with four rotating nozzles.. the Yak uses 3 engines, 2 of them exclusively for VTOL operation..and the airframe was not built at the sparks factory anyway...
Rhklenke:I know it but I will leave the candy for the kids...
Best regards, Enrique

RE: Name that plane
All I know was that these two were head to head on replacing the Russian trainers. The Yak-130 did win that battle and is in production now with deliveries starting early 2006. Total numbers by the 2015 should be around 200 airplanes. The first batch is going to the Combat Training Center 4th CBPiPLS at Lipietsk.
The Mig-AT project may be dead. They are still parts for around 20 planes and may go into production but for EXPORT only. Interest has been shown by some countries. The Mikoyan corp. is still doing work on these but at their own expense and no Gofvt. funding.
We'll see where this goes.
