Default Custom Length JetCat Data Cable

Is the data cable on the JetCat a standard phone cable? I'd like to make custom lengths to keep things neat. Anyone know a source?

Call JetCat USA. They will make a cable for you at any length you desire. I suppose you can make your own, and I have had a connector fall off one from JetCat, so their's are not infallable, but for me, that's the easiest way to get a custom length one...

The JetCat cable is NOT a standard phone cable. A phone cable will damage your ECU.

You can buy the cable ends and the crimper to shorten them yourself, but you have to get the correct connectors. I was using the wrong connectors and had some trouble until I got the right ones. The connectors must be for multi-strand wire. The normal phone line connectors are for solid wire.

Make sure you look at a JetCat cable to get the orientation of the connector correct. The connectors on both ends will be crimped on the wire, exactly the same. Notice the color coding on the wire is the same on both ends of the cable.

7,14, or 25 feet
And I thought the JetCat supplied cables were long.

i have swapped these cables from other turbine manufacturers. They worked out fine. I havent tried out a telephone cable though...thanks for letting us know that they are different. I would have eventually used one someday.

no !! it is not a standard cat 5 ethernet cable !!! check the pin outs before making your own !! and yes they can be made using cat 5 cable but you have to crimp on your own connectors with the propper pin-outs ... a cable made with the wrong pinouts will blow out your ECU !!!

The connector in question is an RJ-11. They can be purchased from Radio Shack or any other reputable electronic supply. I spent about $35.00 for the crimper. The connectors were out of stock, so I bought a package of them and 50 feet of cable from Home Depot.

Just be sure of the orientation of the plug. One side of the flat cable has a raised orientation rib running lengthwise.
Pay attention to the wise words of warning elsewhere in this thread.
Don't fry anything!!
Long ago, a wise old electronic engineer that I worked with told me that "All of these electronic components work fine....as long as you don't let the smoke out....they need the smoke inside to keep working!"
He was right. I've never seen one work after the smoke got out.

I bought a five foot coiled cable from Digi-Key and cut it in half to make a couple of short coiled cables for my JetCat start boxes. The retractile cable is very convenient and doesn't get tangled up when not in use.
