Shaun,
I've talked to Kelly and am impressed with what he said about the 600.
But I wanted to hear from the jet pilots in the field, not the reps. How many 600's are flying in the US? Were there any at Superman or the recent Florida Jet show????

Chris,
I've been thinking of the PST 600 as well for my Gripen. Are you thinking about a project for the PST 600? I guess nobody in the US has them because they haven't been approved by the AMA yet. Also, US guys seem to be more into the big turbines - everybody here wants a P-160!

PST
Hi Guys,
Last I heard there was ~5 or 6 pilots in the states flying the J600, ignoring the AMA. John C does have one on his AV8R, but that's the only one I can put a name to. The rest might still have theirs in a box or on a plane, hard to tell because I don't have any names to check with. They might not even be RCU guys...
I haven't sold any J600's so unfortunately I can't refer you to anyone yet. Sorry I can't be of any more help.
Kelly

600
Hi Chris,
I got 15 flights on my PST 600 now. (We fly on Frank Tiano's property which is wide open with no neighbours and fortunately not AMA sanctioned... )
My first 5 flights ended in flame-outs until I discovered a leak in a Festo fitting. Lesson learned. Do NOT put a Festo fitting on the suction side of the fuel pump. it can cause bubbles in the fuel system. Festo,s are designed for positive pressure, not suction.
My other flights have been flawless except for one where I left the tank vent closed... DOH
The 600 starts first time -everytime. The autostart works perfect. Thrust is in the 13 - 13.5 Lbs range @ 160.000 RPM. Absolutely no flames on start-up which is something that I'm not used to. I thought 12 Lbs engines where supposed to be flame throwers until I ran this one.
The GSU offers all kind of readout and adjustment. Pump voltage, battery, RPM, temp and R/C signal. Ramping speeds can be adjusted both up and down at low, mid and high rate settings. Throttle response is about 3.5 seconds spool-up and 2.5 seconds down. This is the factory setting, but it can be adjusted to your liking. However, faster spool-up times may be possible with a little tweaking, but it will probably shorten the engine life.
So, I'm very please with the engine. In fact, I have ordered a second one arriving next week for my BVM F-86.
And one more thing. Kelly from TJT is a great guy to work with. He sure knows his turbine stuff. (Thanks for the heads up on the Festo problem Kelly)
Let me add that I am probably going to become a PST rep soon, and you asked for a non-rep review. But since my name was mentioned.......

How many guys IN THE USA are flying with PST 600 Turbines???
John, I busted up an Isobar a few years back using a Festo on the suction side. I still use them and do not have problems as long as I am certain TO NOT have a severe bend in the (in this case) 6mm tubing near the seal. As you correctly stated, the Festos were intended for use in a positive pressure application (which we do not have on the tank side of the pump). But I have found that they are satisfactory on the negative pressure side as long as the tubing does not try to bend so much that the sectional moment of inertia is reduced enough to allow the cross section adjacent to the Festo seal to collapse. When that happens, you get air bubbles. In my Isobar case I had just rotated off of the runway and started my first turn and the air leak was just enough to turn full thrust on my engine into idle. Bummer!

Do you mean if it has a bend it leaks because the tube gets flat?
Just rent a pig you'll feel better!

PST 600
Hi Chris;
I got a PST 600 engine about 4 weeks ago from Chris Mounkley, and just finished a PCM AV8R for it.
It is ready to fly as soon as we get some dry weather here.
I have several other turbines, and am impressed with the PST.
Will let you know as soon as I fly it.
Best regards
Ron Jahnig

Woketboy,
We will be flying Saturday at a Big Bird event in Jackson, MS. You guys ought to mosey on up that way and fly off that 325' strip.....much more challenging than flying from that 3000' runway.... and I hear they aren't as stingy with their pigs there too!
