RE: JMP Firebird Kit Review
Wojtek-
Great to see someone posts pictures of the high quality of Tom's work. The FireBird will go together without all the cut, fit and bending of wing tubes and parts that some of the other manufacturers make you do. You would think that for what we pay for this stuff that manufacturers would not use us as their QC people and expect us to fix their production problems.
I've seen Tom throw away a mold if the part that it makes isn't a perfect fit and do it all over again. That's Quality.
I wish someone would post pictures of a HUSTLER also in construction.
Tom doesn't get the credit he deserves. All the hours of engineering of gear and accessory components that make it easy for us to build great flying equipment.
Keep us up to date with your project.

Amen brother!!
I’ve know Tom and Susan for more than 16 years. If you really want to see the ghost mad, say something bad about Tom in front of me and you might not have a mouth to use anymore. (lol)

WOJ, Very nice kit. Been thinking of one of those for myself. How long do you foresee it taking to get it RTF? I am sure you will be very pleased with the jet. -Patrick

RE: JMP Firebird Kit Review
Tom makes an excellent kit and yes the parts all really fit. Easy to build since it took my builder a week and a half to build the Firebird RTF. Unfortunately the painters been busy for the last month, but soon it will get paint. Wojtek you are gonna love the way it flys.

RE: JMP Firebird Kit Review
is that formerly Joe Rafalowski's plane ?
if so, would you mind snapping some pictures for me of the leading edge by the intake, as well as the speed brake set up ?
how's she flying ? I can't wait to have mine up in the air.
thanks !

Yes, the FB formerly belonged to Joe. Next time I have her out I will attempt to get some pics.
Very fast, very stable, solid in the approach. Got a Titan in this one.

RE: JMP Firebird Kit Review
Sung had a Firbird. It flew with the old P160 I think. This thing is truely a bullet!!! It is sooo fast and it eats up the skys faster than a bandit. It seems to land fine, but he had tons of runway, so not sure of the slow speed behavior....
Good luck on yours guys!!!

RE: JMP Firebird Kit Review
I flew mine for the first time last week, and all I can say is .......... Wow. I really dont think enough is spoken about how well these kits are engineered and designed. The Gear is bullet proof, everything just works. Yes its a little heavy compared to modern sport jets but its designed that way. Built to last [>:]
As far as flying goes..... I cant see what all the fuss is about. I had heard some scary stories about this model in the past, but once airborne it was as solid as a rock. Tom Cook Settings were spot on. The flaps are so effective. When I was setting it up I had to lower my flap Atv to reduce the movement. Now this is not something I normaly do. I usally go to 100% and then reduce in flight if needed. But like the rest of the instructions the flap section is very specific that no more than a certain angle be used. Which for me was perfect.
Sure its no short grass strip machine, but I found it to be very well mannered. Great ground handling. Take off on the flap settings suggested was in approx 50m. In flight it felt dialled in. My only quible is that it needs more aileron servo power. I have 8411's and at high speeds the roll rate reduces a hell of a lot. But by high speed I mean high speed [>:]
I know its daft but this model has the most amazing noise in the air I have ever heard. I have a problem with one gear door opening at full speed, and when this does the noise is, well...... You have to hear it to appreciate. I cant get any vortex's off my tips but I guess this is just to do with the Uk weather right now
I have never had a model with such energy retention. Those that have seen it fly testify that it seems to be going faster in a vertical upline than nearly all models go in a straight line. I did one pass where I cut the throttle right infront of me and from that pass I amanged almost three curcuits of the field before I had reduced speed to a point wher I was happy to put the wheels down.
Landing is straight forward. I think mine is nose heavy as I use full up in the final turn and this sets it well for landing ( Keeping full up on all the time) No sign at any point of any type of flick/ departure. Once the mains touch it sticks like glue. No bounce no wobble no worries.
I think its fair to say that I am more than impressed.
I downloaded the info from my weatronic and it made for some quite impressive reading.
I cant find the smiley symbol that has fire shooting from it but in the meantime I guess this is the most suitable combo of smileys to sum up my 7 mins of Fire bird fun.

P.S I have found one major drawback with this model. For all is beauty, it has to be the most unphotogenic model in the air EVER! No camera man can keep up with it

pilott28 ,
thats Joe Rafalowski's original plane right ?? any chace of getting cloes up shots of the air brake, as well as the stall strip extension on the leading edge just outside of the intakes ?? looks sweet !!
Ali,
So haw fast did the GPS show as max ?? how much thrust are you running off of ?? that is one sweet and slick looking Firebird .. one of the nicest ones out there for sure ! glad to hear of the well mannered handling .... as for the vapro trails, it is in fact the fuel coming through the vents , neat nontheless if you can get it to show up [8D]
