A-6 INTRUDER SCRATCH BUILD UPDATED
My buddy and i were searching a slope flying site and got an idea from a guy that made a slope a-6 intruder. We decided to make a slope flyer for a test bird, before i make a turbine version. Its dimensions are 73 inces long and 72 inches on the wing. We got three views of the bird, and bulkheads. Using these we made a planview and added the formers as specified on the three views. The remainder of the space will be filled with two part expandable foam. The whole thing will be filled, and covered in f/g. We will show the build as we progress. Nick

Sonnich, what scale did that drawing originate at? Was it by chance 1/72nd. I only ask, b/c for shaping purposes, it would be nice to have more bulkheads. My Threeview was originally drawn from a 1/72 scale model and we blew it up 800% for a 1/11 scale bird. Thanks, Nick

The progress so far. We used some pink foam formers from the templates SJN posted. We're in thr process of testing the two-part foam on some scrap ply to see how it will work. If all goes as planned, we'll add the foam between the formers next.

Update, we started shaping the one side and will finish up the other side this weekend. Really thinking of making it a composite short kit, with foam cores and removable wings for 120 power. It would be a definite SHORT KIT for builders that like to build. Nick

WE r using the bondo to fill the gaps between the foam formers. in some areas there was up to 1/4 inch gaps between the formers because the foam didnt quite fit right. It will be ok also, because we can use the bondo to perfect some of the shapes that were to complex to get to with sanding blocks. later, nick

i would suggest using anything else but Bondo .. its old technology, and there are better products out there ..
try :Icing" from http://www.uschem.com/products/index.html
it cures in around 10min to a sandable consistency .. after around 7 its rubbery for a while where it can be trimmer with a knife like soft silicone . ... after its dry ( like 10 min if you use extra hardner, otherwise like 10- 15 like the package indicates) it sands like balsa .. thisis what the professional bodyshop guys use ... I wil NEVER use bondo again !!
