Cool, I've heard of that field several times before.....didn't know I was that close. [X(] I'm staying right on the airport........off Veterans Memorial Hwy, any clues on how to get there? Think there will be anyone there during the week? Thanks again for the info!

Try contacting the following members from floyd bennet. They primarily deal with jets.

Robert,
I remember a field being close by with a paved runway. I don't know if anyone flys jets there or not. I believe it was in Hecksher State Park just to the SW of ISP
an I think it was the SE corner of the park but may be wrong.

[link=http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory =&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitu de=&longitude=&name=&phone=&cat=&address=&city=isl ip&state=ny&zipcode=]Hecksher State Park[/link]

Maybe someone knows more about it. I am pretty sure that is where it was but that was about 8-10 years ago.

There is still an active R/C field in Hecksher. When I visited this past summer, I drove around the park in a counter-clockwise direction and almost gave up when the field showed itself.

If weather becomes a factor, you can check out the museum at Republic airport and the Cradle of Aviation museum across the road from the Nassau Coliseum. I recommend both, but would choose Cradle of Aviation if time only allowed one choice.

Tom

PS Howdy Vinny!

Guys, I want to thank everyone that replied to this post. Looks like my trip tomorrow is a go for now, so won't be able to go out this weekend. [] I will deffinitely keep this in mind for when we're back here again (hopefully soon [8D]). Hope everyone has a great and uneventful time this weekend! Thanks again.
