I'm looking for good quality 1:6 scale instrument sets for two jet projects I'm doing. Anyone have a good source? I would like instrument sets such as those made by Multiplex and Graupner for the glider kits (they only make in 1:5 and above).

TIA

Try going to www.planesplus.com. Click on the cockpits section. I am not sure what size the cockpits are, but there are cockpits for several different manufacturers' planes. Hope this helps.

On my F15 I scanned the pictures from a good book showing the full scale cockpit instrument panel and then printed it off and stuck it on....Looks very affective, as the instruments are the real thing........Ps and it was cheap to do!!!!!!

Thanks, but I want to go 3D scale on these ones. I guess I could make up the instruments myself using the usual techniques but I want to save a little time.

Ill have to post a photo........
There was a guy here in England that done a 1:4 scale Hawk.
This guy had a person make a 100% scale cockpit for him.....Took many hours.......
Post people say though you dont see in the cockpit when its flying, and dont make plane fly any better......
Makes for a good affect though

Jet Jock, i´m with you, no way i would use printed stuff for instruments.
i know that flying nobody can see it, but i take the same care to make everything inside and aoutside the plane as good as i can do it!
for 1/6 i had the same problem for the F86 i´ve done.
to solve, i made 3 sizes of 3D instruments with plastic/alluminium tube and small clock´s bolts and casted copies in resin.
now i just make more instruments whenever i need it.
check this one i made in 37% scale for a TOC competitor :

Thanks guy's, I guess I'll have to make my own but I like the idea of making a set using tubing and plastic card and then casting them in resin. May have a go at that soon.

Jet Jock, Blue Box Toys makes a 1/6 Scale F-15 cockpit that is unbelievable. I cut, sliced, sanded and made new parts to fit my Aviation Design Rafale. I'll post a few pics before and after.

RC MAN, The instrument panel is from Aviation Design. The video screen pattern is a Xeroxed piece of paper with clear plexiglass over top of it. It is not lit up, just very vivid color and it was out in the sunshine when I took the picture, made it look like it was lit up. Thanks, Mike

Hi Jetwrench

Rafale cockpit looks great, especially in the plane. That is exactly why I want to do a good job. Even though you cannot see it in the air, it is the place all spectators' eyes are drawn when the plane is on the ground. Unfortunately, I don't think I can use the Bluebox F15 cocpit as I am building a "Classic". It is a 1:6 Hawker Hunter, which was manufactured in the '50's and 60's. Ejection seat would be an early Mk Martin Baker and instrument layout all diferent. However, the construction technique of the Bluebox cockpit has given me some useful ideas and I like the concept of making a "bath tub" cockpit that is removable. It will enable me to access an area of the fuslage otherwise blocked by the cockpit.

Thanks

Jet Jock, Very interested in your Hunter project. I worked for a Museum in Houston about 14 years ago and we purchased a single seat Hunter from the Hunter One collection in the UK. GHUNT was the registration. I was the lead mechanic on the inspection and reassembly so I am very familiar with the Hunter. I think it is probably the most beautiful airplane ever produced. Our chief pilot at the museum was a NASA test pilot who flew everything at the museum( F-86, Mig 15, F-104, T-33, Mig-21 and A-4) and the Hunter was his favorite of them all. Good Luck with the project and keep us posted as the work progresses. Mike

IIRC, that's Spencer Flack's old bird.

I'm waiting to see what Mick Reeve's Hunter kit is going to be like. Supposedly there is also a larger Hunter kit under development somewhere secret. Hope they both turn out well, as I definitely "need" a Hunter in my collection..
