Default Graupner charger

I know this is probably in the wrong forum, but I know a lot of jet guys use the Graupner Ultra Dou Plus II charger. I lost my instructions for it. Can this charger charge the Li-Ion cells? Also does anyone have the instructions in .pdf?
Thanks,
Craig

I think it depends on which version you have (i.e. how old it is). My Graupner is about 5 years old and if I remember correctly it will not charge Lithium Ion cells. I just bought a new Shultze (same company manufactures the Graupner) isl-6 and it will charge them.

Let me know what software version yours is running, if it is the same (or close to) what my Shultze is running I would bet that the instructions will be the same. It will be tomorrow before I can scan and send to you though.

Thanks Kevin! I will get the version of it tonight. The only part of the manual I wanted to see was the part about Li-Ion if it's in there.
Thanks again,
Craig

Craig,

I, too, have a Schulze charger like Kevin W's. If I recall correctly the Graupner will not charge Li-Ion correctly. I could be very wrong----I'm just saying to be absolutely sure that the Graupner instructions say that it will charge Li-Ion cells. I was told when I purchased my Schulze that the software was very different. The Graupner had the older software and that Schulze has never sent these chargers out with identical software. I'm just trying to make sure that you don't destroy your batteries.

Default Lithium chargers

I have the older Ultra DuoPlus II and the new Ultra Duo Plus 30 that I picked up at Superman.

The older units are not for lithiums. The Schultze and the Duo Plus 30 share similar software and both do lithiums. The second charge port on the Schultze is still limited to 330ma and 5 cells rather than 4 on the older UltraDuo II, but on the Plus 30, they have boosted that up to 500ma and 5 cells. I use that to charge my rx battery between flights.

On the 30, I have to set the type of Lithium battery, and then select the capacity and number of the cells. The software then selects the proper constant voltage, constant current charge.

I don't use lithiums in my planes, but do use them in my cameras and amateur radio hand-held transceivers. The Plus 30 works great and charges faster than the chargers that come with the units.

Got to be careful with lithiums---overcharge and they can explode, and discharge too deep, and they're ruined.
I see where some of the new packs advertised on the RCU banners have protective units built right into the packs, but then I think you are stuck using their charger, but I am not absolutely sure about that.

I see where the street price of the Schultze is about 159.95, whereas the DuoPlus 30 cost me 220.00, but I did not really shop around, since very few are available. I got mine from Camillo at Graupner down in Florida.

Craig,

I must appologize, I forgot to bring those instructions to work with me today.

My Shultze is running version 7.13 software though. If I have time later today I will run home and get the instructions so I can scan them for you.

Default Instructions

Kevin,
Don't worry about the instructions since it can't do Li-IOn.
Thanks,
Craig

I stand corrected. On further checking, I also note that the 25 does not contain the li-ion programs.

Thanks for the heads-up Dave.

Default Re: Where can I buy a Graupner Ultra Duo Plus 30 on the web?

I'm looking to buy one of the new Graupner Ultra Duo Plus 30 chargers on the web ( preferably from a vendor in the U.S.) I've already emailed the marketing manager of Hobby Lobby and here's what he had to say:

Michael,

Unfortunately, we do not stock that charger. There is some discussion here about possibly carrying it in the future, but not right now.

I wish that I had a better answer for you.

Thanks,

Hello,

I am interested in purchasing a Graupner charger from you. However, I would like the 2 port ultra duo plus 30 but do not see it on your web site -- do you stock this? I was previously up in arms between that charger and it's brother, the Schulze isl 330d (made by the same people so I've been told) but the Schulze in this model only puts out 330 maH on its second port while the Graupner Ultra Duo Plus 30 puts out 500 maH in its second port -- a bit better in my opinion for quick top ups at the field.

Best Regards,

Michael B.

Thanks for the info Tom -- the Graupner Ultra Duo Plus 30 sounds like the ticket through all my research. I was bent on the Orbit Microlader or the Schulze 330 but I heard the Orbit false peaks and it only has one port -- and while the Schulze has two ports, its second only puts out 330 MaH while the Graupner puts out 500.

Thanks, I ordered my Graupner Ultra Duo Plus 30 from graupner-modellbau in Florida, U.S.A. and it's scheduled to arrive on April 1st. Thanks for all the information everyone. I did check with Diane @ flightdesigns.com after I placed my order, out of curiousity and they stock the Ultra Duo Plus 30 as well! I can't wait for this excellent piece of equip. to arrive, I've even orderd some new battery packs to test it out.

Best Regards,

Michael B.
