my guess:

I am seriously considering buying a RTF SR -71 of a guy her in AUS and converting it from DF to twin 14lb turbines. My question is has anyone else done this before? I will be replacing all the flight surface servos with 13 kg digitals due to the extra power of 2 x turbines.

Well i suppose i should fill you guys in a bit more then.

It’s a yellow aircraft SR-71 built 10 years ago and only flown once i think.

I bought it off a guy who had OS 91 in there. i will be looking at twin turbines either 14 or 18 lb turbines.

i have to open her up and have a good look at what sought of fuel pace i have to play with as that is a limiting factor for sure.

Weight at the moment is about 9 kg but i will be able to improve on that with li-pos and the removal of 750 grams of lead as ECU pack's will provide the nose weight.

It has full 3 wheeled undercarriage, gear doors, landing lights and a parachute system ready to go

More pics tomorrow.

i plan of having this thing flying some time this year but I am busy at the moment with a boomerang intro (currently flying) and have nearly finished converting a Trim Air Spectra to turbine.

i got a NEW P-60 today for it today will post pic’s tomorrow.

I also have a F-15 for twin turbines to Finnish as well.

Not really sir. I have seen a couple of those at jet meets, but I never got to see it fly.

I've heard many different things. Some say it flyed great once "on pipe", others say it was a terrible model and a handful. In any case, it was back in Ducted Fan days. Im sure that turbines will make a real difference on yours.

Dig here on RCU, there was a guy who was conveting one to twin tunbine, and he figured out where to locate the fuel tanks for proper CG.

Love your Viper

Bruce came to visit me here in NYC a few years ago. We went to the Intrepid and saw the full scale blackbird! Nice guy. How's he doing?
He also had a giant F-16 with two 6" homemade fans and OS91s, and a giant F-20.

That blackbird is REALLY nice. Really nice finish.

Great looking bird! A fellow here in Mid-Missouri is building a SR-71 that will be as follows:

"...it's a SR-71 Blackbird, also known as the Sled. This beastie will be 1/8 scale, which will put the final size at exactly 13 feet long, and 2 inches short of a 7 foot wingspan. Final dry weight I'm shooting for, is 45 lbs, and is to be powered by 2 AMT Mercuries."

I think he is building the molds and everything by hand, check it out: http://www.mmrca.org/lance/
