Has anybody tried building a model from one of G.Bertella's plans. He advertises in RCJI and I thought about trying his Tornado.

I have a friend in California trying to build two. One is the SR-71 and the other is the SUU-27. Said the planes are really big. I was going to buy the Tornado plans but did a combination of drawing with an overhead projector and enlarging a set of 25 sized plans to sixty sized. When I matched the two up, they were the same size. (I got lucky on this one.) I will make two versions, one prop driven for proof of concept with the swing wing and stabilator set up, and finally a ducted fan version that will house a 80+ engine and fan unit.

Thanks for the reply. I'd be really interested to know how u get on with building ur 'tonkas'. I'm working on a prop driven Jaguar at the moment, and i'm tearing my hair out with the retracts. I've had to widen the fuz, to get the wheel boggies in.

Hey Dipsy
I built a ducted fan jaguar a couple of years ago. I showed pics of it in a mig-21 section. I knew the gear would be a headache so I opted for fixed. Tell me the specs. How long is it, what is the wing span? You understand that the legs are long. Did you figure out where the CG was? How many engines are in it? If I was to build another, I would make it bigger and use two engines instead of one.
As for the tornado, I have the whole thing kitted except for the swing wing formers. I have an idea of how to do it. That will be built next month. The prop version will have retracts, swing wing tailerons and moveable TE and LE flaps. The only thing I have to do is make sure that the insides are large enough to house a large df motor. (100 or higher.) Also the internal plumming would be different since there would be a thrust tube sitting in the middle of everything.
