RE: Storm Chasing
I know Joe...................I've got issues. [8D]
What would really help is a PM from someone across the pond that might know where this jet is at ? Appreciate the couple of you firing me links right now.
Thanks guys,
Bryce

Hello.
Your jet is an anniversary painsceme Panavia Tornado from JaBoG31 "Boelcke" near Kerpen.
This jet in that paintscheme does not exist anymore, it is now back in the german camo scheme after the d-check. However the anniversary birds are usually pretty well documented with the units they flew with.
Erwin Mayer of Germany flew (and sadly crashed) one from an italian Masterfly kit in the older stars design Cham 2002, there are some pictures on there:

What do you need from that bird?
Cheers
Hank from across the pond

RE: Storm Chasing
Man.............all you guys came through, I went to sleep and I wake up to PM's, addresses, names and the like...............a great feeling to have such assistance domestic and abroad. [8D] Thanks everybody!
Hello Hank,
Thanks so much for this info and link you have provided, I would really like as many pictures of the bird below as I can get, (I need the standard, side, top, front, rear and bottom if possible of this jet) then F.S. # (Federal Standard numbers or equivalent of the paints used in the scheme) Interior cockpit shots of the jet at the time it was painted in these colors would help as well. Any close ups of course I can use as also.
Do you know why Mr. Mayer's beautiful bird crashed?, (it may say on the site there, but have no translator here at the moment) that is very unfortunate, it looks like he did an excellent job building/painting it.
Thanks again!
All the best,
Bryce
There would'nt happen to be a plastic model out of this bird too floating around somewhere as well ??

RE: Storm Chasing
Hi Bryce.
His bird crashed due to pilot error. I was there when it happened...he almost lost the bird once because he flew to far out and probably got disoriented. Had a few feet to the ground...He then came in for landing, overshot on the base leg, and while attempting to correct he got in a heavy wing rock, until the plane went in over a wing. Apparently he rebuilt it after the loss, but i have not seen him fly it since.
As to your puppy: the 44+31 was apparently taken from service shortly after it's anniversary scheme. The colors are not FS numbers, the paint comes from the Luftwaffe-arsenal, so they are RAL. I do not have the numbers on them...the best bet would be to contact the JaBoG Airbase paintshop, they painted and detailed it and can tell you exactly what went on it.
The right side fetures the head of Mr. Boelcke (45 years JaBoG) and 2 horses on the intake. The left side tail has a Tornado on it (20 years tornado). Lefthand intake has a howling Wolf in front of the moon, as well as the link to the anniversary homepage (now offline) www.alma321.de. The airplane was called "blue lightning" and also had this logo applied to the nose.
Apparently Revell had plans to come out with one, but from what i know they did not briing it yet.
I have about 20 or so pictures, with quite a few details and also higher resolution, as well as 2 or 3 cockpit shots. The cockpit layout is the standard GAF ECR Tornado layout as is still flown today. If the photos are not enough i might be able to get more via my uncle, he was RIO on the ECR Tornado until a few years ago.
Contact me via pm and let me know your email adress, and i'll get you whatever i have on my PC on the bird.
Hope this helps
Regards
Hank
