Default Receiver crystal pics-interesting--

I have noticed that some of the jetters (more the turbine types) can be a bit lax about protecting the receiver crystals. Take a look at this pic on the web page noted and you might think twice about just tie wrapping the receiver to a board. Thats a REEEEEEEl thin strand of wire that is hanging our $6000 plane in the air. Scott

Those thin wires are a push fit clip. There is no solder joint. I have opened crystal in the past where a piece of the top chipped off in a high G event (crash!) as it bent over and hit the can. Some xtals have a soft protective paper around it to prevent this. The chipped xtal actually still worked...
Now just as scary is them thin wire bonds on the IC die to leadframe connections. These actually can tear off under acceleration as found in some Mach 5+ missiles, some have discovered when using commercial parts...
Best not to worry about this stuff!
