0002 rolled out of the shop today ready for covering.
Bob used this one to make up part of the assembly instructions.
He made a few changes on this one including the bigger access hatch, plus this one will be a bit lighter.
Should be flight ready in a few weeks.
Here's a few pics.

Update:
Prototype #2 made it's maiden flight today.
0 bad habits and 4lbs less than the 1st prototype.
Take off roll is about 50ft with a P-60
It's getting markings finished this week and heading to GSW!
Post some pics later when I get them.

It's pretty amazing to to see a big 80 inch spanned plane this size just fly so effortlessly on a 12lb engine.
I'm waiting for Bob to design the swept wing version lol

Bob drew this plane up and brought it to a club meeting back in 2002.
He's been planning it quite awhile.

The designs are completley different.
There is a passing likeness but thats where it ends.
The plane has side slots for air intake, but no matter the setup, everyone should always use a FOD screen.
Theres always a chance for a turbine to suck any number of things into it no matter the position or location.

Thanks Bruce.
I love the R54 design, it's awesome, heck I even bought one!
I never got a chance to finish it though. Hopefully Woketman will get it in the air and send me pics!

I will get it in the air someday. Due to Return To Flight and then Katrina, I have had other priorities for the past three years. Actually, after Katrina when they moved me up to Marshal Space Flight Center for almost two months, I had more time to build, but I was in a one bedroom apartment (no band saw, no jig saw, no vice, no belt sander, no big messy garage, etc.). I actually got about 70% of the rest of it built. But then we came home and I started working 6 or 7 day weeks leading up to Discovery's STS-121 flight on July 4th. Now STS-115 and the fact that we won th CEV contract is going to take some time, and I have a Kangaroo in front of it (just because it is closest to being ready for flight). Not to mention three years of stacked up honey-do's!
It'll happen. Stayed tuned.....
