Default Storing Jet A

Well my jet flying season is over here in New York and I need to store my fuel.

I have a Jersey Modeler Can with about 4 gallons of Jet A left in it. Can I just leave this in the Shed or garage till next year? Will the fuel still be good?

Thanks!!
Dom

I don't kow if this is any help, but last winter, I stored an unopened container of Kerosene in my unheated garage. The lowest temp was 22 below zero F. It survived just fine. When summer came, I mixed it, and flew it off with no problems.. Your situation is a bit different, though...........

Store off the concrete floor and keep the cap tight.Next season, shake it up and pour a small amount in a glass jar and let it stand for a while and see if any water or algee is in it.If not, your good to go.

Hi Mark.
I wish I could attend but I lost my T-45 at Superman this week. You can get all the details on the Jetlegens T-45 thread.

I will see you next season with my PST Panther. Thanks for your hospitality this year.

I have always just stored mine in the garage with the cap sealed well. Never had any issues at all. But down here it don't get too cold in the winter. I also triple filter it (maybe four times actually). Maybe that filters out any algae.

I use the perscribed amount each time I get kero in large containers with air tight seals.

Dom,
your fine.
I've stored mine in the garage, and in the shed, never had a problem. Your Jet -A should have "Prist" mixed in so algae won't grow. Storing Kero is another story.

I bought a 55 gal drum of Kero a little over a year ago. Put in some algae preventative called "Bilboa". I have about a third of that left, and still no algae or moisture, stored outside, and I live in the Pacific Northwest and we had 30 inches of rain in the last year. Still no issues. We have 3 turbines burning fuel from that drum, all without issue.

Do not store any fuel on a concrete floor, the moistue somehow permeates through the plastic and will ruin the fuel, the thicker the container the more resistance to the osmotic effect.
