Just wondering...what setup are you guys (those of you still flying df's) using for the OS 91 as far as fuel and glow plugs these days? I've had good experiences with the 5% Wildcat fuel, but could never find a reliable plug. Also, is anyone mixing additional oil into your fuel, if so, which one? Thanks...

Ok, the MC-09 appears to be for applications using 25% nitro or higher. While they are recommended for ducted fan use, will using only 5% nitro be a problem for this plug? Also, which Morgan fuel? They make cool power, sidewinder and omega. Regards,

According to www.morganfuel.com the Omega blend offers a 7% and 15% nitro for jets, but with no oil!!! I guess you have to mix it in yourself. Unless I'm reading their charts wrong. I think I'll stick with the Wildcat.

Hi Richie,
MC-9 is the best plug to use regardless of the nitro content. Wildcat 5% or the 10% fuel is the best. I used to always add a couple of ounces of turbine oil to each gallon. Make sure to use a mixture control to avoid too lean settings.
Hope this helps.

I agree with the MC-9. I always ran Omega 5% and added 4 oz's of Klotz synthetic racing oil to a gallon of fuel. This oil is usually found in hobby shops in a quart bottle. I could get 10-12 flights on a single plug, and the only reason I changed the plug then was because I thought that was enough flights for a plug under that kind of stress. Good luck!!

Thanks Mike. I never liked the idea of waiting until a plug failed in mid air either. Unfortunately, that is something I experienced more times than I care to mention. I never did try mixing oil into my fuel however and that is something I will experiment with this time around. Regards,

Some people would add an extra head shim when using 10% in the OS 91. Most fan flyers use a fuel with a combination of castor and synthetic oils. There are a couple of fuel companies that blend a special d/f fuel. Many had great results with the Wildcat mix.

For the BVM 91, that I am currently using, I use Wildcat 10% and the MC-09. Very reliable setup, the current plug has 7 flight and it almost looks like new.
For my OS91 I use wildcat 5% and the same plug, also very reliable. I have 30 flight on the plane and I am on the second plug.
On both engines I prefer to set up the neddle on the rich side (not one lean run yet).

Gracias Eduardo. I always use on board mixture control so that shouldn't be a problem. It's clear that the McCoy plug is the way to go, never used them before. Hopefully, this time around I won't have as many problems as I did in the past. I'm looking forward to getting back on the Jet scene as I've been flying heli's mostly for the past 11 years, roughly. Richie

well... went out to fly the f-16 and low and behold my plug was dead. 17 flights was enough for that one. lol i'll chalk it up to a lesson learned...
