Some guys were flying the byron F-20(same size) with 12lbers( Mw-54s )
stuck right in the tail,(easy to balance with that long nose)
but a 18 pounder should give it that fighter performance.
I might start on my KOTA F-20 as well....

As I recall Chuck Yeager was a test pilot on this airframe also, and pushed it to be built ahead of the F-16. It was simpler, faster, and did very well in air to air competition with the 16. It also had a GE engine which was a much better power plant than the 16's Pratt. Politics entered into the deal though, and General Dynamics was in Texas, and a lot of political clout comes from Texas. The 16 has proven to be a winner, and now flys with the same GE engine. We will never know how the F-20 would have measured up. Bob

B-1B project is in hybernation right now. The big wind (135 mph at Crystal Mtn) knocked out power to 1.2 million folks around here and some got their power back on Christmas Eve after being without it for 12 days. I was one of the lucky ones and got my power back after 4 days. Shop is really cold so I will probably wake up the project in the early Spring.
My F-20 is still sitting here also and was thinking about cutting out some new wing cores to get rid of the old embedded fuel tanks and then dropping one of my PST 600R's in the tail end. So many projects, so little time.

What the F-20 had is basically the same thing that goes into a F/A-18 (OK, the Hornet takes two), Gripen (does well on one) and probably many others.
Actually, I have been thinking that the F-20 and the Gripen must be some sort of cousins, just different ages: great capabilities in a compact package.
edit: I just had to go and check:
The F16 has used various versions of Pratt and Whitney F100 and General Electric F110 engines.

The F-20 used the much smaller General Electric F404

I had a FlightTech (aka Cressline) F-20, Os91/dynamax set up, 16lbs. Got 6 flights out of it before it went in due to motor problems and 12ft high cornstalks. Mine was painted in the military grey scheme.. very hard to see! Kit was a bear to build since nothing was measured or cut right. Have to dig through and find some photos and scan them.
