RE: Wren 44 Gold Users?
Like my MW44 Gold 8 pounder very well. I have a 40oz tank and fly 8 to 9 minute flights with a little less than 1/4 tank left. Only thing is when it gets hot outside the acel delay must be increased to avoid a flameout on throttle up, slowing the "slam time" somewhat.

the later Golds have close on 11lb thrust. Mine is a wonderful little engine, I have two 24 oz tanks and thrash it to death on every flight and still get 7 min with enough for a go around or two..I put 30 odd flights on her at the FIJR and it never missed a beat.

The Wren 44 Gold is a jewel of an engine, never a moments trouble with mine. I can only guess how the new Gold plus will perform, but I hear its even better, very much more powerful, than the earlier engine. The Wren team really know their stuff.

I agree with Jason you cannot go wrong ,i have std 44 and a Gold both in Savex L39,s
pod starts, the Gold has the edge on performance and general handling/fuel without a doubt, you do need to watch esu settings ,i run both of mine with a raised idle settings, but the one thing
that puts Wren ahead is 'customer service' which is outstanding ,nothing is ever too much
trouble, what other company can you talk direct to the guy that build them!,
Whats this about a Gold Plus Jason ?

Have I missed something? "The new Gold Plus" Is this a further development of the "Gold" does it have more than 10lbs thrust?
Best regards
John

just some of them go over the 10lbs. range
they are sold as 10 lbs engines so all you got more is for free!

No, we don't have a Gold Plus - or if we are, no-one's mentioned it to me! However, I know that Mike Murphy occasionally refers to the later ones as "Gold plus" to distinguish them from the original Golds, because we've gone from 8+ pounds to 10+ pounds in the last year. I think it's just a phrase he uses to describe an engine when repairing them in the workshop here.
Jason's right, with a Wren thrust tube they are pushing 11 pounds ... and a MW44 won the GTBA efficiency competition yesterday.
Small and efficient, that's the MW44!

I think it was nice of mike to let Peter take the trophy as it was an absolute dead heat between Peter Chaffe's homebuilt KJ66 and Mike Murphy's Wren MW44 in the fuel efficiency.
