Default Rudder mounted servos

I've been looking into thin servos which would fit into the rudders of my Avonds F15. Although the Volz servos look very impressive, can anyone recommend another option? What Tq would you suggest for this application? Lastly, where are Volz servos found in the USA?

Thanks

Northeast sailplane has them, as well as a couple of others that I can't remember right now. They work good. I saw that a couple of other manufactures had or were working on thin servo's Bkf

I foget the number on them right now (4721's??), but you can use the JR servos intended for installation on the wings to control the Ailerons. OR the Volz. email me if you need a picture of it. I use the JR's

Surely, someone must know how much servo tq is required for this application. There sure are a lot of F15 turbines around.

The volz "wing max" servos are an excellent choice due to thier small size and the all metal geartrain, however, they only have 42 oz-in @ 4.8 V. Granted, I always use 6 volts, but is this enough torque for the rudders of the F15 going 175 mph?

Please, someone with experience please guide me here.

Turbulence is correct.
I have been flying my Avonds F-15 for 2 years using the low profile airleron sevor by JR (4721??). It works fine. Also, let me know how you will get your F-15 going 175mph

I have used the Voltz wing maxx servos in a few turbine jets. It will do quite well in the Avonds f-15. The small JR servo I believe is the 3321, its a good one too. The Airtronics 94141 would be a good choice if they fit in the stab. The F-15 rudders are not very big and the jet maybe hits 140-150 so any good metal gear servo you can fit in there will do fine, the linkage is the important part. If you are spooked then just make the stabs smaller to keep the AMA happy. I have rudders on my jet now and still don`t use them but the AMA is happy.

Check out the Multiplex line.

They have a very flat servo perfect for rudder install.

I used them on an Avons F-15 and work well.

If you are installing rudders on The F15 you dont need a great deal of power . Mine has been flying wit a JetCat 120 with JR 9021s driving the rudders. The servos are installed at the rear outboard of the engine bay and connect to the rudder arms with Sullivan cables. Results are perfect, and linkages are totally concealed. . Volz wing Maxx servos would also be perfect. My F15 wont do 175 even with a JetCat 120 installed, too much intake drag. JR 8411s great for stabs.

Default Here's a picture of my Avonds 15 / Volz servos on the rudders.

Their easy to install, and I never had any problems with them. Their also very effective for crosswind landings, stall turns, and knife edge. I can't imagine flying without rudders.

Thanks guys. This information instills more confidence. I assumed the F15 could reach 175 in a dive. I guess I was wrong.
Thanks to all who responded

The Avonds F-15 is not a speed demon, but it's sounds, looks, and fly's great.
Mine has a RAM 1000, it cruises around at 120, 150 firewalled (straight and level).

Chris, I enjoyed your building sequence pics on your website. I remeber viewing them a year or two ago. My aircraft is already built but I did not make provisions for the working rudders. That's why I wanted to install them into the verts. in a very simple linkage method.
Now if I could only afford the turbine.... well until then, it looks good on my shelf.

I feel (here we go) the Avonds is one of the easiest fliers out there. I am building a second one. It is my every day flyer, simple set-up, lands easily at our field ( 390ft runway).

Sheesh, I don't know why you guys would want to put servo's in the rudders....I put mine in the fin or fuse as David does. ;>))
