Is a new Ram 500 a good buy at $1600, or is it better to go the extra bucks and get a Jetcat or some other engine. First turbine, and I am tempted. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi B58
That would depend upon what airframe you were considering putting it in. If it's a DF style airframe designed around a Ramtec(Dynamax)/OS91 setup, then it's probably a good buy. If your looking at some larger airframe, then I might suggest that you look for a larger engine. There's also the lack of warranty support for these enges, although I know Carlos does an excellent job with them.
Think about where you want to got and if the 500 will suit what you want to do. BTW, what airframes were you thinking of?

If anyone is interested my RAM 500 is for sale. It was fitted with newest electronics and "breathed on" by Carlos at last FJ, runs beautifully and starts first time with SCR batteries. Powered my BobCat for 50 flights and is in perfect condition. Can deliver at FJ for US$1600.
I also have an AMT Pegasus in perfect condition which powered my BVM F4 for 30 flights before being replaced by Peg HP.
Pefect engine US $2000
Can deliver at FJ.

I was thinking of my YA A-4 that is at the right stage. I will think about it and find out what serial number. Thanks for the help. I have seen the Jetcat, and know they work fine.

But the best choice would be the FS 52 from FunSonic. It is smaller and not so heavy.

Or if you want the most satisfaction for your $$$, the Wren MW54! This way you can work on it yourself and not worry about what serial number it is or who built it that week.
