If its just a kit try DHL. If its a plane in a crate you probably are better off to contact a freight forwarder. Check the phonebook. It may take several calls but you'll probably find one that has more shipments to the UK and therefore has better rates. Also check with the person to whom you are shipping. They may be able to find a forwarder on their end easier and arrange it where you just drop it off at a certain location near you. If you do it that way it may be easier on the person receiving for clearing customs and the duties involved.
Thats how I had something arranged that went to Saudi.

The best is "BAX Global", but you should try to find someone with an operating account with them....

How big is the package? Have you tried the post office? I've shipped quite a few things overseas via postal and it's usually reasonable. I just shipped a guitar to Norway, it was $472 via fedex, $180 postal, but the customer opted for fedex still since it was 2 day shipping vs 6 day with the post.

Pete, be very careful with the Postal service, at least U.S. Postal if you are driving across the border to ship. I was told by them that when a package is sent to another country that it is often transferred to that country's post office (or another carrier) and that the insurance you pay for originally is useless at that point. If the package is damaged after that transfer you are out of luck. This was a couple of years ago when I was sending turbines to Denmark...Gary

You can ship it to me for alot less. Might be easiest to ship out of the US and cheaper.

HI all, Canada post has a maxim girth of 118.11 inches, my parcel is 28 lbs. at 68x12x15=122 inches, it"s too large.
So far Fedex is $579.00
UPS is $500.00
DHL is $829.09
Bax Global is $205.00 but you need a business account.

Pete,
I'm not sure but, does Forward Air go somewhere close to the destination you need it to arrive at? I've had a CAI Raptor shipped from NJ to Seattle and the shipping was fairly reasonable, a hell of a lot less than Fedex or any of the others you mentioned. Any possible way you can squeeze the size of the box a little to get it within Canada posts max dimensions?
How close are you to the US border? I've shipped out quite a few items from the US side as it's only a half mile drive for me but it usually costs me less than half of what shipping from Canada costs.
I recently shipped out a glider that from Canada to Wyoming was going to cost $89cdn, I took it into Sumas Washington and sent it USPS for $8.70.
I also shipped a guitar fedex from Sumas to England and it cost me $220, same shipment from Abbotsford to England (sussex) was $479.
Might be worth looking into.
