I saw in the latest RCJI that Wren is now selling the MW 44 as a completely ready to run engine, which produces about 7 lbs of thrust. When they get AMA approval on this little gem, I bet they sell a lot of them in the US. I know I want one!

Default Wren MW44

Brian,

I'd love an MW44 in my all-balsa rebuildable F86. $80 fuse, $40 wing.

Just wondering about the applications of that little motor. It has 7lbs thrust?? Probably good for JHH line of jets, I guess that is why Larry is onboard with Wren now. This motor would also work well in a twin jet. I hope to power my ME-262 some day with two of them.

You can count me in for 2 of them for my F-14!

I have a JHH F-86 that is just waiting for an engine like this. I have already pulled the wretched K&B .45 and all the ducting. And, I built a new wing without the cheater hole. The JHH F-86 is a good plane, but I was never happy with the performance it had with the K&B engine. Sure, I could have put in an OS 46 and gotten better performance, but this plane seems just perfect for a small turbine.

Default JHH F-86

Brian,

I do recall seeing pics of a Ram-500 powered JHH F-86. I believe Dean W. at Helijet built one. I guess 7lbs of true jet power would make that jet a sweet package.

Yes, he did. I though of putting one of my 500s in the 86, but it seemed like it would be a pretty heavy plane, and also there is not a lot of room in there . Obviously it can be done, but I decided to wait for a good 7 lb turbine.

Once the Wrens are out there and approved, it is very likely one will find a home in my 86. It looks kind of sad and lonely sitting in my basement with no engine.

It is possible that it will actually weigh LESS with a Wren in it than it did with a DF engine. That would be nice!

Vin,

Now THAT would be cool! Your Me262 with two little turbines.......I'd drive out there just to see that fly.

Default twin turbines

Hi Shaun,

I know the guys at Wren have flown the AW ME-262 with two 54mm motors but I just think the 44mm would be plenty powerful and easier the install. Not too much room for twin fuel supplies, maybe 40oz per motor. The 44mm looks like a better choice but who knows......
