Default recovery chute?

Hello All, please pardon the new guy dumb question but do any pilots employ some type of recovery parachute? Trying to convince my wife that 8K is not a lot of money to spend on an arf jet that is not insurable.
I know they are in test for large commercial aircraft. I have seen some pilots lose their jets in situations where a chute could have set the plane down without incident. I appreciate the input and patience with a new member.

Thank you.

That idea has been batted about before - if you do a search you'll probably find it and can read the details. I think the conclusion was that a chute large enough to land the plane without major damage was just too heavy to carry. That, and the difficulties of deploying it quickly and reliably seem to make the idea impractical...
