Default Turbine trainers

Hello guys,

A friend of mine is looking to get into jets, and he is looking for a good (and cheap) turbine trainer.

We would like to hear your recommendations for a turbine trainer for 5-8kg turbines.
thanks.

The Baby Boomerang is quite a nice, and expensive kit, he wants a cheap model to learn with.

If your friend is a kit builder, the Reaction-54 from Bruce Tharpe is a real winner. Check it out.

My favorites are the C-Arf Rookie and BVM Bobcat... they both fly at true jet speeds and land at the same speeds of the straight wing
trainers if the proper piloting technique and airplane setup is applied...

i3,
I'm not 100% sure but I think I saw an announcement a while back saying PCM Models had gone belly up. All my links to their web-site don't work either. Not a good sign.

Ronnie can tell you too, the AV8R may not be as good a first jet as the Reaction or the Baby Boomer. The old reliable Reaper is another inexpensive jet. Not quite as pretty, but flys just fine on a wide variety of thrust class turbines. Bob

The FACET is excellent. All wood, sheeted foam wing, fixed gear, easy to setup and fly.
Everything you'd want in a trainer.

From personal experience:

The Reaper, I would skip as a first jet - the thing floats and floats and floats until you figure out the proper landing attitude. It'll work, but just not as easy as others.

The Facet and Reaction on the other hand are EASY to fly and I know from the Facet, once you throw the flaps in, it sets up a great landing approach virtually on it's own.

Can't speak for the Boomers and A-10X, though they seem to be just as good a trainer flyer.

Good luck - much fun to be had.
