Default Pipe-Tailcone Mounting

Should the tailpipe be flush with the end of the fiberglass tail cone or recessed somewhat?

The outer wall of most dual walled tailpipes extend about 10 mm. past the inner pipe to help scavange cooler air between the two pipes. I was wondering if it is adviseable to do the same thing when mounting the pipe in the plane and have the outer pipe recessed about 10 mm. inside the fiberglass tailcone. This is a non-bypass application.

What do the experts do?

Joe

I run mine flush or just past the fuse. Allows any Jet A to flow from the jet I'm told.

The tailpipe should actually be recess a little so that the efflux helps to draw air out of the fuse.

I'm hardly an expert, but I've tried both ways on the same airplane and noted no disernable difference in running temps. I eventually just brought the pipe in a touch (1/4" to 1/2"~) so that I wouldn't see the pipe sticking out....
