Default Storm Jet CG?

Does anyone know exactly where the best CG is on this jet? I have it balance at 5" from the root leading edge and it seems really nose heavy. I have been thinking of moving it back to 6"

you can start at 5, and then fine tune it to your taste. (picture from the manual)

the second landing was pretty good, and based on the elevon deflection at touchdown I would say that you can give a try at 5 1/4 to 5 1/2 cg.

Don´t worry about landing with the mains first, and the nose well pointed up, this plane doesn´t drop a wing. you may add some extra exponential rate if you find the plane twichy at high speed using this new setting.

Maybe you guys can put a simple strip or warning fence to keep the onlookers out of the way..

I think you will fine.. take your time, and do one change at a time... the Storm is a great jet.

There is a excellent German software that uses the same method I use to find the CG on the non standard planes. You can input the data on it and have a very good initial CG estimative.

If you have triple position rates in your TX you can have also 3 chances to dial it the right amount of travel in the maiden flight.

Wing Attachment

A problem with my Storm is the wing attachment. Gradually the holes in the wing and the Aluminium spar seem to open with usuage. I now have 1-2 mm gap between the wings and fuselage/wing stub. I am ruminating on a CF tongue or fitting some sort of seal between wing and fuselage. Has anybody else had this problem and, if so, any bright ideas for solving it??

CG Position

The problem I have found in moving the CG back is that control in steering and premature lift off on take off become increasingly difficult. OK for those with a tar mac runway but grass can be a problem.

Directional Thrust

Has anybody found a directional thrust system that fits? On a Merlin 90, this model will virtually stand still! It crosses one's mind that carrier/harrier landings might be possible. Has anybody tried it?

1 - None on mine.

2 - None on mine also, as it is fitted with canards, the CG shifts forward and the steering wheel keeps well grounded as also I fly on tarmac.

3 - Yes, it flies pretty well using VT´s doing tumbles, harriers, etc.. however I still prefer how canards behave on slow flight instead VT´s assist. (I tried quite successfully this, however the first time the engine quit and I lost 50% of pitch control authority while trying to reach back the runway made me put the canards back, LOL)
