Same here. 7.68 oz. (US Liquid) in 2 gal. (US Liquid)

Now, if you guys were using the metric system, it would be rather easy. 30 milliliters per 1 liter. No calculator required. (1 liter = 1000 milliliters. 3% of 1000 is 30.)

For myself, I mix up 20 liters at a time. A 3% mix is 600 milliliters. (5% is 1 liter.)

Hi Jim,
then for 5%, 19 liters kero and 1 liter oil and not 20 liters kero and 1 liter oil...
OK?

That's the way i mix, for 5% i add the quart of turbine oil, then add 4 3/4 gallon Kero.

KC,

I don't believe you have a 5% ratio. 5 gal is 640 oz., and 5% of that is 32 oz. Thus you should mix 1 quart oil to 5 gal, which is 20 to 1, or 5%. You have a 19 to 1 ratio.

My 2c.

Some of you guys need to go back to school.

If you have a total of 5 gallons, 4 3/4 gallons of fuel and one quart (1/4 gallon) of oil then you have 5% oil. 32 oz. oil/640 oz. total = 5.00%

If you have 5 gallons of fuel plus a quart of oil then you have a total of 5 1/4 gallons or 672 oz. (640 + 32). 32 oz. oil/672 oz. = 4.76%.

yes 5% of 5 gallon (640 oz) is 32 oz, in order to have a 5% ratio you have to take the 32 oz of Kero away so the total end product is 5 gallon, if you add the quart to 5 gallon you then have 672 oz, not a 5% ratio. and in most cases i mix by the gallon because my turbine oil comes in 7.5oz cans, i mix that to a whole gallon and it's very marginally over 5%.

also a 20-1 ratio is 4.76%, not 5 just so you know.

kc

EDIT: i see i posted the same time as joeflyer with the same responses

to elaborate a bit further 20-1 is a 21 part mixture, as mentioned it's time for some folks to go back to school, Are you smarter then a 5th grader

It's a good thing we don't have to be TOO precise

At the end of the day your turbine won't be able to tell the difference between a 5% or 4.76% mix. Some manufacturers recommend 2.5% and some 3%, plus there is a certain safety factor in what they recommend. Just wanted to clarify the math.

yea my JetCats says approximately 5% so 4.76% for those running it that way probably isn't going to reduce engine life considerably opposed to 5%

Is it apparent to anyone else after reading this thread that there's nothing happening in the RC Jet community this evening?
