Behotec J66HP & EXXON 2389
Guys,
I have a case of EXXON 2389. Can I use this oil with my J-66HP? If I can please suggest a ratio to mix. I have a 5 gallon fuel can.
Sorry if this is a stupid question or if it has been discussed before, I just wanted my question to be specific to the Behotec J-66.
Thanks!

I don't know that number, but check it against the mil spec that Harley Condra is always quoting. That's what I do. You can search his posts under that username. I know he's mentioned it here in the past 10 days or so for about the hundredth time. If your oil meets that mil spec, you are good to go in my book.

OK, good ole EXXON 2380 (man, I had cases of thst stuff back in the day...) is MIL Spec MIL-L-23699 and that is the spec flagged Harley.... EXXON 2389 is MIL-L-7808. I am not sure where that puts me but thats the intel on the oil....
Anyone have anything to add?

Guys,
MIl-L-7808 is the "old school" engine oil spec that has been superceded by Mil-PRF-7808. MIL-PRF-23699 is the latest Mil Spec.........today.
Lots of ground power units use the 7808, as well as many APU's, especially in colder climates where thinner viscosity oils are necessary. 7808 is approved for use in some of everybody's engines ...Pratt, Rolls, GE, etc, depending on the climate and the type of the engine.
If I had a case of Exxon 2389, or BP 2389, I would use it in my engines. Just be sure to mix it very carefully in the ratio your engine manufacturer recommends, and remember to keep an eye on your spool down times. If the spool down time reduces, then the bearings might be getting unhappy.
Lots of guys are using lots of different oils now, some are even using two-stroke oils. If the engine likes it, keep using it.

Dave
EXXON 2389 is less viscous at high temp than AEROSHELL 500 which is what is recommended. Aeroshell 500 has the same MIL spec 23699 as EXXON 2380 or equivalent turbine oils available. Many modellers have had successful results with 2389 in their engines with no problems.
Behotec engines can run on both oils and even on clean Diesel fuel if Kerosene is not available.
