Default Please help me on weathering a jet

This is a question for the scale jet builers.

I'm in the final stages of painting my jet. I weathered the yellow wings using a scale black wash. The fuselage is red. Is a scale black wash OK or does another color do a better job.
Thanks again

Peter

The weathering on full scale aircraft does not change according to the fuse color so why should you utilize a different color on the red section. Keep it simple and it will look better.

RC_MAN, Dreamworksrc has some great tips in the tips section, there is a PDF file there that tells you how to weather a plane. Authored by Ralf Schneider. http://www.dreamworksrc.com/tips.htm

Don't be afraid to use gray hues to keep the effect more subtle. Also, adding a little burnt sienna / red hues on the bottom closely resemble dirt and dried hydraulic fluid. Of course, that depends if it's a carrier aircraft (less dirt) or a front line AF bird where dirt and grime on land based airports finds it's way into the mix.

Don't forget to look to the plastic model guys - painting and weathering are the holy grail to those guys and they know what they are doing. Do a few google searches and you are on your way. Here are a few links, you'll find a lot of reference material if you do a few searches.

When it comes to weathering, less is always better than more. It is so very, very easy to overdo it! except for extreme cases, weathering is very subtle.
