Jetcat Turbine Mounting Strap
Hi Guys.
I have a P-70 and a Titan and have noticed that the Turbine Mounting Strap does not do a good job clamping the turbine. The turbine pushed forward causing the glo plug to be the only thing preventing the turbine from shifting further forward. Any ideas for a fix?
Thanks,
Dom

Dom, some shim stock from mc master-carr would do the trick. just trim it to the width you need and place it under the straps and that should give you a tighter fit.

I shim as well. I use aluminum tape available from the hardware store and build up a couple of layers if needed. Tape the mount, not the engine.

Keith,
I also used the aluminum tape, however the rear strap got hot enough to melt the tape adhesive. It ran down the case and permanently stained it.
Dom,
BVM Heatshield is probably too thick, although it will compress. A better idea might be to get some gasket material at an auto parts store and use that. It comes in various thicknesses.

Mick Reeves, www.mickreevesmodels.co.uk, does a very nice 'Jet strap' For £15, It has quick release clips & is adjustable. You will need to give him the diameter of your jet. Ray.

I use cut up Budweiser cans. You know... that swill your friends bring over for a picnic.... shim material is the best use for this product, besides using the liquid inside it to kill garden slugs.
seriously though.... beer cans cut nice and clean with a razor blade and a straight edge. I have also knurled the hidden side of the straps for extra grip........... the P200's push real hard..

Picture to share from this weekend's car show display. To bad they had no Hybrid or Low Rider Classes. I did win the vote for loudest exhaust note..

RE: Jetcat Turbine Mounting Strap
my stock jetcat mount had screws tapped into the aluminum bands and no nuts on them.. I replaced those screws with longer/ better ones and added lock nuts.. no more loose straps..

RE: Jetcat Turbine Mounting Strap
IF you use a larger diameter washer under the nut it will help cinch down that gap where the two straps come together and make a tighter fit. See pict above. These straps are soft non heat treated aluminum and they do stretch a little over time and many re-heats unless they are pinched right up close to the flange bend radius. Conditions are worse on the Jet Luge due to heavy road vibrations and few unexpected hard landings... ugh

I actualy did all of that. I replaced those phillups head screws with 8/32 socket head screws, larger wahers, stop nuts and added a shim under the top mounting strap. I bought some rubberized gasket material at the auto parts store. I doubt that baby will move anymore.
Thanks!!

RE: Jetcat Turbine Mounting Strap
Is it possible to overtighten and SMASH the turbine. I think that
that strap ought to fit the turbine without binding the flanges togather.
Just my .02 .
Is anyone marketing Purple anadized Mantched mounting straps?

RE: Jetcat Turbine Mounting Strap
thermal expansion is a factor here but the aluminun straps expand and contract with the case- wouldn't they? as the aluminum gets the heat quick being a lighter metal, but I check mine anyway after every day of flying, along with a lot of other safety check items, no slip in 150 flts.. I wondered about the straps smashing the turbine also, with tams smoke system tube mount tabs under the straps also (as can barely be seen in upper right of my last pic) mine got tight without washers, thats why I didn't put any under the nuts as they would squeeze harder than I needed (for my application, yours may vary).. but I think the case is way stronger than the straps can smash before they fail anyway... a cheap easy way for an anodized look is to heat the aluminum part then rub the core of a cut open ink marker on it the color of choice, once it cools wipe with alcohol to remove excess.
