THE REAL THING - HORNETS NEST
Family-Day at sea on the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN.
You can't get any closer than this unless you enlist.
The sound track is muted by the auto-cut-off of the video camera microphone. We had military issue earplugs but it still hurt when they came in and especially when they left the angle deck! The Super Hornets were significantly louder....
A day to remember for ever...

Eric thank you for posting..................BTW Seems like the navy is exempt from all safety requirements, image if the arresting cable snapped.It has happen before usually two cables go on a deployment ,also earplugs for protection for the masses, looks like an lawyers dream.........our tax dollars at work...but its better than dropping bombs on the desert.

I cant believe they setup bleachers on the flight deck, thats ridiculous!!! I would have loved to have been there. Boy I hope those guys were the best because if one of those planes would have had a problem, man that would be ugly!! Awesome video though!! Im sure everyone signed waivers Joe

I thought about the safety issue and then I thought, "If I have to go then let it be now!"
The sound of those jet engines as they applied the power on touch down was chest crushing and all of your thoughts dissolved until they backed off.
It was brilliant to be where my boy served and worked. We now have a ton of "common ground" and shared imprints that we can talk about when he gets back from the next cruise.
God bless all of our boys and girls that are out there.

BTW - It was more scary standing on the edge of the flightdeck/flat-top with almost nothing to keep you from falling off....................Also the arresting wires were further back than the bleachers. I purposely zoomed on the wire to show which one they caught. They all got the first one of two.

WOW!!!! I had no idea those jets could turn on a dime like that. Man, that thing has a tighter turning radius than a volkswagen rabbit I used to have years ago...LOL Very nice show, and yes, I'd do that in a heart beat myself. Thanks for sharing.
