Default VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..

Sandors Velox arrived this morning.....bought and paid for some 3 to 4 weeks ago but well worth the wait..Dazzling colours and Paintwork [:-] Just stunning.

I shal be putting some of Sandors JET-1A retracts in ...( i allready had some in stock )These differ slightly in that they fold up under the air cylinder...couple of other slight alterations in mind too..

So loads of photo's along the way..

A few photo's to get us off the ground...If i come up with something that you think could be done better...or is just plain stupid..let me Know

Looking round a few things...i will have to make a new gear mount plate...Sandors Jet-1A retracts must be a bit slimmer than the ones supplied in the kit.

The JR DS3301 sevo's fit spot on in the booms for rudder opperation...And the DS8411's are fine for flaps and ailerons with the metal mount plate supplied

When you make up your new gear mounting plates remember to centre the wheel in the existing opening. With the Jet 1A oleos the retract unit needs to sit slightly in front of the centreline of the wheel holes due to the trailing link. You will need to trim the front of the opening for the oleo leg to clear the spring.

Dave,

Looks great so far!

How do the booms and the wings lock to the main body? Is it a similar set up to the BB Intro? Will you be fitting the gear doors / rams etc?

What servo are you using on the elevator?

Oh, so many questons.....!!

Thanks for the pics so far, looking forward to more.....

The booms are held on by a 4mm Allen screw into a prefitted blind nut in the fuselage, it fits perfectly. The wings are held on by a similiar screw though the underside of the fuselage into an aluminium pre-tapped plate in the wing root.

The Tamjets wheels are a little heavy! The ones supplied by Feibao are very light and nicely made. I am just over 18lbs dry which is pretty much as advertised, for a change! It's refreshing to see a jet manufacturer being honest about the weight. I bought a Scorpion on the premise it was going to be 18lbs dry and it ended up at 22lbs!

Going to cut a 1/8 liteply gearmount out ...then if all is o.k. with that i'll get one ( 3 ) made up at work from ally or titanium.

I recon there's about a 10mm offset from centre due to the bend in the oleo.

Once she's up on her feet i can start with the steeing etc..

dont overdo it...
if you give me the sizes i will make on our CNC machine some new formers.
and will deliver them standard if someone orders a Full jet-1A set for the Velox.

just a reminder to everyone!
the landing gear delivered with the Velox By Digitech and their dealers is partial Fei Bao and part Jet-1A!!

the retracts , wheels and brakes are from Fei Bao
the Front oleo , main oleo,s are from Jet-1A.

maybe FeiBao USA will provide the same setup we dont now yet , currently working out the details.

Are the dimensions of the retracts for the Velox available anywhere?

I have a Mecca Models Tango with Robart retracts and was wondering if they would fit this plane.

Do you know if a set of Spring air 400 series retracts will fit?

Thanks

I see no reason why Springair 400's will not fit. The worst case is that you will have to make up some new mounting plates and glue them to the original mounts. This will mostly depend on the type of oleo and wheel you are using. I would very much reccommend the Jet 1A oleos especially for grass operations.

I would forget the titanium gear mounts unless you need to withstand AAA

You got it all wrong. The wheel are Intairco in the photo.
The wheel we have is using BVM O-ring brake and is not heavy.
Fei Bao wheel is very good and 10% lighter than our. But you get only 30-40 flight and have to replace the tire.
I had my F-16 wheel made by Fei Bao and that what I average getting.
But our standard wheel can easy do 100 flights before replace the tire.
So there is always benefit from both wheels. Light weight get less flight. Little heavier wheel get double the life out of it.
Here is the photo of our wheels.

No, I did not get it all wrong I recognised the wheels as Intairco which are heavy. I simply assumed you had supplied them as Treadstone said they wereTamjets wheels.

But hey! You got to place a free advert for your excellent wheels and tyres!

C2 Hobbies

Nothing wrong with the gear mount. It is set up for a straight oleo leg, if you want to use a trailing link oleo you need to move the retract unit forward in the mount by about 5mm to keep the wheels centred in the cutouts, you could increase the size of the wheel cutout instead. If you move the retract forwards the amount of plywood for the rear screws to fix to will be marginal. I just added some 6mm ply plates, took about 20 minutes.
