Default JetJoe JJ1800 turbine

Hello guys,

Has anyone tried a JJ1800 turbine ? what are your comments ?

Please avoid the usual "chinese junk" remarks, i would like to hear from those who actually tried the JJ1800.

thanks.

Hi Lior,
I have one and I am testing it. It is actually not bad. Makes lots of noise and blows lots of hot air out the rear end like any other KJ-66 type around.
My one had some 'quirks' early on but they are fixed now.
For the price , not bad. Can only speak for myself though, don't know of anyone else with one.

Any other JJ1800 owners out there? The JetJoeUS site says that they're shipping the 1800, but I haven't seen many user reports... [sm=confused.gif]

I got a JJ1800... I got NO problems with it..plug and play. Pushed my a-10x around with authority. I consider it a great little turbine for a bargain price, plus you get Gabe Browns hands on it to make sure you have no problems, and if you do, you just give him a call.

I have one but have not run it yet. The one I have came from Gabe and Mark, both are US Reps.
I have mine mounted in a Topgun Mig29. I should have it ready within a week or so at which time I will give you an actual user report.

Meps, I'm also very interested in your Mig-29. I'd love a detailed synopsis of how you went about it all. I have a Mig-29 that I'd like to turbanize.

I don't have pictures of it yet but I'll get some soon. I bought the Mig from a buddy of mine already converted. It doesn't appear to have any "major" modifications. It use to fly on a Wren 54 mk11. At that time, it weighed 16.5 lbs dry. The Wren barely flew it. After getting the JJ1800, I had to change the motor mounts and I also beefed up the rear of the fuse by adding a former at the leading edge of the stabs to prevent flexing of the stabs. I also added a former approximately 2 inches back from the leading edge of the wing because when I would lift the plane, there was a small amount of flex present due to the heavier engine.
I'm using a bifurcated pipe from Tam.
I'll try to get pictures soon as I don't have a digital camera(I'm kind of behind the rest of the world). I should be flying it real soon.

I know mine doesnt produce 23lbs. A safe guess would be 18lbs but thats a guess.

Luis

Meps, when you do get access to a digi cam, be sure to take pics of everything How are you handling the gear situation? Are you comfortable that it can take a beating?

The JetJoe site claims 20lbs thrust for the JJ-1800:

Could possibly be, I'm just letting you know what I think it could be. Its definitley a very strong motor I just havent measured it at all. There are alot of factors into play with realized thrust such as field elevation, temperature, etc..

The gear were fine when it had the Wren in it. I'm sure they'll hold up or at least I'm going to find out(smile). I have Spring Air retracts using Robart Struts, BVM wheels and brakes.

Hi B1driver!
Would you measure the turbine diameter and NGV OD&ID of JJ1800? Is it same as KJ66's turbine? Thanks.
