Default 30 lb Class Turbine Choices - your vote?

Hello,

I am looking for a NEW 30lb class turbine. What is the best? I want to put it in my new Boomerang XL2

AMT AT-280?
Jetcat P-120?
Jetcat Titan?
Artes Super Eagle?
Artes Rhino?

It seems that I am another RAM 1000 casualty and I hate that I even considered buying that thing before doing due diligence. Had I known of the problems with the RAM 1000's I would have never bought it. RCU should put a permanent sticky on the jet forums warning people of these turbines. The same rip off seems to be going round and round this community. Well, If I can't get the person I bought mine from to give me a refund it I'm tossing the POS in the garbage! I'm sick of dealing with it. Carlos even sent me a new ECU and a new pump. The guy I bought it from claimed that it was "nearly new" and paid for these replacement items but the damn thing still doesnt work right. The thing only has 27 starts on it for God's sake. I hate being a sucker. I for one will not let this mal engineered lump of crappy alloy excuse of a turbine into anyone elses hands without FULL DISCLOSURE!!!!

Did you talk to Carlos about his RTI engine? He guarantees 28 pounds of real thrust and they are usually more. They have incredible response and he said it is a combination of the best parts of the best engines. Literally two clicks of throttle and the response is like a glow engine.
If you haven't talked to him about it, you should. We have several flying here that are great. He doesn't have the big marketing budget so you may not know about it. I think it is called the RTI 2800.

It runs on one tank and refuses to start on another. The last time I tried to start it I hear metal rubbing when the blades came to a stop. This just started and only happens once the engine reaches 350 degrees or so trying to start as it cools down. It doesn't scrape when cool. It partially starts and then flames out with a puff of fire. When it's running it's real strong. The history says it got up to 840 degrees on the last run of 15 min without any reduction in power like the ECU is supposed to. All in all, more trouble than it is worth and I am afraid of trashing a nice newly built Boomerang XL2 with this engine. Maybe I can attach it to my bycicle and look like one of those idiots on one of those videos I've seen.

Too late Turnnburn Ram 1000 is already spoken for by me. I am well versed in the ram motors and I am going to take a look at it tomorrow for andy. I have had mine apart and back together many times. I am currently working on a new style inconel combustion chamber for it with the fuel feed from the front like the jetcat motors and different secondary air induction holes to reduce the *** and EGT temperatures that plagued the ram line.

Andy,
There are a lot of good products out there. I believe that the AMT AT-280 Auto Start Engine is the best quality engine out there in this thrust range. It still has the fastest throttle response and no other engine compares with the quality of our product. Our product stands up better to fod and crash damage than any other. The AT-280 will give you years of trouble free service. If you are looking for the best choose AMT. If you are looking for a bargin basement price turbine we are not the one for you. We sell Rolls Royce quality at a fair price. If this is what you are looking for, give us a call.

PST 1300R. Starts easily, runs flawlessly. 28+ llbs. Nice price too compared to the rest of the motors on this list.

I guess I was lucky. My RAM 1000 started and ran flawlessly. Good luck with it.

I have not owned and of the other engines in this class but I have observed most of them in action. I dont think you can go wrong with any of them from what Ive seen and know. Dont forget to give the new Wren 200 xl a look. Wren quality is as good or better than any of the other engines and their customer service is top notch as well.

Ali Maschinchy, who has been Alan's test pilot for all the Boomerang planes and has flown them with a number of different engines, gave his opinion on the best engine for the Boomerang XL here

I think this thread has played onto your strong side - and you have made "a hit, a very palpable hit" (Misquoting Hamlet).

Best wishes

All good engines. You may want to consider the Behotec 130 or 165.

They are all good engines, but the number one reason to get a JetCat is their electronics. So much better than the rest.
