RE: What is this and where can I get it
I have also heard it referred to as "garolite" or G10. There are a wide range of them available all with different specs and tensile strengths. Mcmaster has all that stuff on their site.

Frank Tiano has several different thicknesses of G10 in 12x12 size. I have the similar stuff like you have there, but it appears to be electronic board. I bought a batch off of Ebay a couple of years ago. You are welcome to a few sheets of it to see if it will work for you. PM your address and I will send it to you.

Comp ARF calls it Phenolic. I'm not sure what the difference is between that and Paxolin but I think it is the name of the resin.
None of that helps you to find out where to get it though!

I believe Paxolin was/is a phenolic that has a paper base for the resin ; a later product using fabric instead of paper was called Tufnol.
Of course, these could just be the UK trade names, and generic names for them exist instead, but that's all I remember of the material.

Thanks for the help thus far, I need a US source for this stuff that I can order today (preferably in CA ie west coast) so I can have it overnighted to Texas. On my digital calipers, this stuff is .080 thick, so it's not 1/8. On the MM it's 2.0 MM.

If you search for 'phenolic' on McMaster Carr a load of things appear.
There are a couple of phenolic based laminates and epoxy ones too. Only in imperial sizes though.

Hey Sean
Why not just use carbon fibre sheet, I have used it and it works great. Here in OZ we use paxolin as a electrical switchboard insulation material... might pay you to chase up some switchboard manufacturers in your area.
Kind Regards

Sean,
Call these guys, they should be able to find that thickness.

RE: What is this and where can I get it
Hi Sean,
The sample you are holding is a product called 'micarta'. It comes in sheet form, different thicknesses and is made from canvas material layers bonded with epoxy carrirer.
it is used in aviation for spacers, insulators and sealant scrapers.
Any major airport maintenance workshop should have plenty of this material available.
one caution with this material, work it slowly ie drilling, sawing, power sanding etc as excessive localised heat build up can destroy the laminates.
Regards

Take no notice of 'bladder man' he always smells of piss. I think you would be better off with 2mm Fiberglass sheet. Ray

Have a look at the following
8491K13 - Grade CE Garolite - Phenolic with cotton cloth laminate
or
8474K122 - Grade LE Garolite - Phenolic with fine weave cotton cloth laminate
It is quite tricky to find the 'overview' page but by playing around you can get a summary of all the similar laminates and their properties. Please don't take my word as gospel as I can't guarantee that what I have suggested is the same as what you have.
I'm not sure what you need it for but the Comp-ARF horns have been known to break if twisted. I don't think it is the strongest material in the world.

If you use two on each surface there isn't a bending moment is there?
If I bought a C-ARF model I would use the phenolic parts supplied as they are up to the job is used correctly. However, if I had to source/make my own control horns (if that is what you are doing) then I would probably use carbon fibre. I don't have a particularly huge amount of experience but there must be a reason why the likes of Tam, BVM, Skymaster etc all use carbon.

Ok, source me out the carbon fiber, I'll make both and report back here which I think is better. My machine will cut accurate to the knats ass. So really any material is worth giving a try. I'm scratch building a sport jet as big as the lightning. I'm in stuffing stages now and need the control horn part resolved.
